Your engine will run on straight vegetable oil but it will cause problems after a few thousand miles. If you convert the oil to biodiesel by treating it with alcohol and lye, you can use it in anything that burns #2 fuel oil. Make sure there are no natural rubber fuel lines because biodiesel will dissolve them. synthetic lines are fine. Be prepared for frequent fuel filter changes for a while because biodiesel will loosen sludge from the tank. Can i use cooking oil in my diesel van?
Only after you have retrofitted it with a ';Greasel'; engine, which can utilize cooking oil, (filtered old, or new) as a fuel. Check out one such system at the source below.
Theoretically you can choose between using the conventional or grease fuel system once installed.
I know a farmer in ME, (Diversity Farm) who uses this system in his deliveery truck.
You're not so far off after all.Can i use cooking oil in my diesel van?
Yes people do in South Africa as well. But it won't start on it. You have to run it warm before switching over to oil. Before stopping you have to switch back to diesel for about 10 min otherwise it won't start next time. How good it is for a engine I don't know.
No you can't. Cooking oil will make a real mess of your pumps, injectors. . Bio-diesel is REFINED cooking oil - it's not the same as cooking oil.
I asked my husband this question and he heard start your engine with the deisel after its running switch tanks burn the cooking oil
If it's first converted to bio-diesel, sure. As is, no.
yes you can but you need to have a bio-diesel kit, about $500
Only if you're cooking in your van. Cooking oil is not a fuel for your van. Don't try it!
It will do much the same job, but I feel that C%26amp;E would not take a liking to you doing so!
with a few small mods to it than yes, just google it to find out
why are you going to cook something in the tank? no u cant
who told you this......?
