Which Cooking oil......?

Hi,

I have a very basic question about cooking oil. For cooking one time meal of 2-3 people, typically we use around 2 spoons of cooking oil. And, I know that which oil should be used, is quite a topic of discussion. I don't understand that are those 2 innocent spoons of (any) oil can affect us so much??

I mean, to me, it seems that 2 spoons of even the most unhealthy oil may not affect us much?

Please correct me, if I am wrong.

Any quantitative justification should help all the more.Which Cooking oil......?
Unfortunately, it does affect some of us a lot and in a very bad way. I can tolerate olive oil very well but am allergic to most other oils, no matter what quantity. This limits the choices of foods and restaurants I can have and visit.Which Cooking oil......?
Everybody is fat-conscious these days.

Olive is good for salads but not for cooking.

Peanut is the best for smoke-free frying.

Flax oil has omega which is heart-friendly.

We like Canola for everyday use in Canada.
It depends upon the rest of your diet. If that is about all the fatyou get in a day, then it doesn't matter much.

But that would mean nonfat dairy foods, reduced fat crackers, lean meats, no mayo or mayo-based salad dressings, no butter/marg on veggies or breads, that sort of thing. If you're doing that, it really doesn't matter if you use lard or suet or canola oil. But if your diet is like most Americans', we get fat elsewhere too, so where we can control what kind of fat we take in, we do, and choose canola, olive, safflower, sunflower, or other poly- or mono-unsaturated oils for the health benefits.
Some oils are good for us such as olive oil and some are bad such as hydrogenated oils like they use for deep frying. Small amounts of oil aren't bad but we Americans don't do anything in small amounts. There is fat in everything and most oils in the US have additives in them which make them not only bad for us but really bad. If you could use Extra virgin olive oil for everything your troubles would be over but then your cakes and cookies would taste like olives. One alternative now is grape seed oil. It's a bit more expensive than your normal canola oil or corn oil but it's very light and much better for you. No trans fat, low cholesterol and very high smoke point. Worth every penny

For diet control we are using olive oil for cooking.?

and as my experience it is not incresing cholestrol. but now one medical person is telling it is bad to use the olive oil for cooking-means heating. it should use only direct. if heat it gives more dangerous result.is it correct? For diet control we are using olive oil for cooking.?
Considering olive oil is a Monounsaturated fat, it is healthier than a lot of other oils because Monounsaturated fats will increase your HDL levels (the good cholestrol) and decrease your LDL levels (the bad cholestrol). Whoever told you that olive oil is bad, I think they were referring to its smoke point, not as to how healthy it is. Olive oil has a lower smoke point than peanut oil for example. That means olive oil will smoke and burn quicker than peanut oil when you cook with it. So it's best to use olive oil for things that don't require long cooking times or frying. For diet control we are using olive oil for cooking.?
I dont think this is true, read this

olive oil???? i don't really know about alive oil but for me its not the oil that matter but the person that is consuming it. well for me the best way of being healthy is by having a healthy diet and healthy diet is having all types of nutrients in the right proportion and you also need to consider your daily activities. Your daily activities will tell you what is the amount of certain nutrient that you need to consume. If you still get problem in the proportion of food you should check the food pyramid. Good Luck and All The Best!!!!

In kosher law, if cooking meat, do all products such as cooking oil need to be kosher rather than pareve?

Even if it is something non-dairy such as pure soybean oil?In kosher law, if cooking meat, do all products such as cooking oil need to be kosher rather than pareve?
    theres 3 ';groups'; of kosher.

Meat, Milk,a nd Pareve(vegetable... neither milk nor meat)

pareve things can be used with milk or meat, but once they are exposed to one, they count as that one.

and when cooking everything involved has to be kosher. all the hardware (bowls, plates, pans, ect) have to be sterilized and kept separate once de-neutralized, (a sterilized... say bowl, is not milk or meat or anything, but once its exposed to it, until its resterilized, it has to be kept with that category)

and all ingredients have to be kosher and of that side (milk or meat) or pareve.

    hope that answers it.

    edit: %26gt;%26gt;';Also if having a meal of meat, does everything in the meal need to be Kosher rather than Pareve?';%26lt;%26lt;

it has to be meat or pareve, rather than being milk. that goes as far as not even having dairy creamer for coffee afterwards, by the strictest views.

generally on a kosher meal it would be entirely milk or entirely meat. that way people can plan accordingly.

btw fish is not meat. (just a side note that many are confused by)In kosher law, if cooking meat, do all products such as cooking oil need to be kosher rather than pareve?
Everything must be Kosher. Pot ,pans must be seperate from dairy. The whole set of kosher rules is called The Laws Of Kashrut. Just Yahoo Kashrut.

WHAT ARE THE CHEAP ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF RE-OILING MY K%26amp;N AIR FILTER?(COOKING OIL?)?
use the k%26amp;n kit, the oil in the kit is made to catch the most dirt as well as not damage internal parts. if you put cooking oil on it the engine will consume it and it may spin a bearing which is alot of labor costs to replace.

if you have a turbo then you have to use the k%26amp;n or else the oils will start to burn in the turbo and cause loss of air flow, and worse may take out seals.
Don't use cooking oil, I run a Dirt modified and a couple of times i have run out of the KxN spray oil so i have used automatic trans fluid, but i don't recommend that either.cooking oil has a low flash point and easily clogs with dust particles.your filter is only as good as the care and maintenance you give it.If you do use the cooking oil run a precleaner wrapped around your KxN like outer wear
the only way to go is with the true KN oil. you are taking a risk with a motor by using a cooking spray. i would much rather pay $6 for the KN oil then say $3000 for a new motor. make sense?? using a cooking spray is only asking for trouble.
really any kind of oil will work the oil only there to catch more dirt...spray oil of any kind is easier but why not use what it calls for

    Heating cooking oil=Trans fat?

When you heat cooking oil (Canola for instance), does it turn unsaturated fats to trans fats? This was mentioned on a bobybuilder's site.Heating cooking oil=Trans fat?
I remember reading a lot of b.s. on those sites and magazines. It is funny that they will recomend taking andro and have steroid ads in them but tell you not to do something for your health.... that aside you really have to head camola pretty high to get the trans fat (which is a chemical process) that will make them switch form a liquid to a solid. I always recomend cooking with olive and peanut oil since they are better fats but if its in a body building site or add it's probably b.s. trans fats are made by hydrogenation.Heating cooking oil=Trans fat?
No, it doesn't turn unsaturated fat into transfat. Transfat is formed by the splitting of chemical molecules, and this cannot be accomplished simply by regular heating.

Have you ever used cooking oil as a personal lubricant?

    I have not.

But I've seriously thought of using maple syrup after all my talking about it...Have you ever used cooking oil as a personal lubricant?

  • Is olive oil suitable for deep oil frying or merely for general cooking?

Not for deep frying. I've tried it--it tasted foul. Use light oil for deep frying. If you have an oil sprayer and really want the olive flavor, then after the food is fried, drain on a paper towel and spray it very lightly with olive oil.Is olive oil suitable for deep oil frying or merely for general cooking?
general, vegetable oil is better for deep oil fryingIs olive oil suitable for deep oil frying or merely for general cooking?
I use it for deep frying its kinda expensive but it works well
Do not deep fry with olive oil. Olive oil has a low smoking point and to get it hot enough to deep fry something, it will burn and taste bitter. Use peanut oil, it has the highest smoking point.
Don't try to use it for deep frying. It burns at higher temperatures and breaks down faster than other more versatile oils. Just use it for general cooking and enjoy it's subtle flavor.
Olive oil is not for deep frying at all. You can use it in your salad, in place of butter on your toast. It really is not a cooking oil, per se. Have a nice evening.
Light olive oil can be used for deep frying like ';third pressed'; stuff, in fact the Italians (Molto Mario says so) use it all the time: however do not use Extra Virgin or any green tinted olive oils, their smoking point is far too low to deep fry with.
No, it's unsuitable for deep frying because it smokes too much.

It's so much more healthy to use it for pan frying and tastes good too. It also has healing properties.
No b/c it burns faster then regular oil. Try just sauteing with olive oil, or brushing it on your food and grilling or broiling. I have deep fried boneless breast in a skillet before, my chicked was a bit hard. So I popped it in the broiler to regain its moisture and tenderness, damn I love food.
i wouldnt do it just because of the overly heavy flavor and the fact that its much more expensive to use then say some regular veggie oil, but it can be done!!
Olive oil has a lower smoke point than other oils like vegetable oil, so if you have your fryer temp to high it will make the food you are frying taste bad, I wouldn't use it to deep fry
This would be a very expensive way to deep fry. Olive oil is best for general cooking, and is more healthy if not heated at all, but used as a dressing or added at the the end of the cooking process
use olive oil for general cooking, besides being really expensive to fry stuff in ,it does give fried food a funny flavor sometimes
u can use olive oil to deep fry but add a little more seasoning to the stuff u are frying. i wouldnt recommend using olive oil to deep fry the food sometimes taste different . use canola oil instead...
Oh no, it has too low of a smoking point for deep frying.
Olive oil has a lower smoking point, so most people don't use it to deep fry, plus it is more expensive. I have used it before in a pinch, and it worked but not as well as vegi oil.
No. Olive oil is perfect for drizzling, light saute and for brushing on something that you are grilling. Its fragrant aromatics would be lost in a deep fryer and you just wasted all that oil.

Olive oil has a low smoking point, which means that it thins out too quickly under high heat. You would have to keep adding more oil to accomplish a deep fry.
    General cooking.

Deep frying with olive oil (esp virgin olive oil) imparts an 'olivey' taste to foods. Some combinations end up tasting like sh1t.
no Olive oil is not very good for frying, but is excellent for every thing Al's, probably the best of all oils you can yous it but D's not mack frying very crispy,Becca's D's not ho ll the heat over 350* the best oil for frying is soy bean
    its for general cooking
Olive oil cannot stand high heat like vegetable or corn oil. Its not meant for deep frying but for adding flavor to foods.
if only popeye could hear the things you were saying...
I would use vegetable oil to fry something. If you do use olive oil let me know how it turns out. :)
Olive oil has a lot of flavor and is very heavy. It is not a good oil to deep fry most things.
I use it all the time to fry as well

I use it for shallow pan fry the most vs. deep fry cause it does cost a bit more.
i think just for cooking cause it gots flavor in it , but u might be able to use it for deep frying
It's no good for deep frying. Smokes too much.

You need the lighter clear oils.
I have never used olive oil for deep frying, I have always used Crisco in the can. I do use it for frying cutlets and other things, I would think if you used olive oil for deep frying, there would be a distinct flavor, not like the flavor of vegetable oil or Crisco. But that's only my opinion.

after writing the above, I decided to check it out please go to the above site and see why its not a good idea to deep fry with olive oil.
No No No way deep fry in olive oil. Also, don't ever let it get too hot--it changes the flavour. yukky
No, it's burn point is too low for most deep frying.
general cooking. you want to use peanut, vegetable or canola oil for deep frying.

What wil happen if i put 2 ltr cooking oil in with 10ltr diesel in my mitsubishi delica 2.8 td, cooked/uncookd

no mods to engine and has anybody done thisWhat wil happen if i put 2 ltr cooking oil in with 10ltr diesel in my mitsubishi delica 2.8 td, cooked/uncookd
It's best to use used cooking oil and filter it to get all the lumps and crap out, It won't be any different from using diesel except on cold mornings it will be harder to start due to the cooking oil solidifying slightly.

It isn't illegal... But if you do it by law you have to pay around 36p a litre... Which is bloody stupid! What wil happen if i put 2 ltr cooking oil in with 10ltr diesel in my mitsubishi delica 2.8 td, cooked/uncookd
The engine will run just fine, maybe a little smokey, but no harm done. It would however be illegal to use it on the road
makes no difference to the performance of the engine, as said before, filter out the dross and way to go. You might start to smell like a chippy which will alert the police. Fellow on top gear ran an 80's merc from Blackpool to East coast purely on waste chip fat - caused him no problems.
u can run most deisels on cooking oil iff u use used oil mke sure u filter it i run i peugot 405 turbo deisel on pure cooking does no harm but u better mixing with some deisel in the winter say 1 litre to 4 cooking oil happy cheap fuel at tescos
it will work JUST FINE !
think you need a special filter. it is also illegal.
    it will smell loverly

tax man will know what you're doing
you can run 10 per cent veg oil (unused) in any diesel engine, best to check with a bio-diesel website first tho`. it is not illegal to use it but you must pay fuel duty on it. in France by law all petrol stations have to sell their diesel with a percentage of bio-diesel included.
Your making some very cheap and nasty biodesil there, its not going to be that good for your vehicle or the environment I may add.

Usually you take cooking oil used or unused and strip out the glycerin i think it is then you can use:

    http://www.schnews.org.uk/diyguide/howto鈥?/a>

Set up the equipment and go collect the oil for free from the local chinese restaurant, they'll love you long time.
the tax man says if you pay for the oil , you must pay him about 36 per litre, BUT if you were to get it free i.e. from a chippy or curry house etc, you pay nothing , so i believe but you must strain it first through the finest mesh you can get, and possibly add another filter to your fuel line.

    happy and cheap motoring.
nothing will happen your car will just smell like a mobile chippy

wat to do guysOiling my cricket bat? Does it has to be Linseed oil or can i use regular oil for cooking?
Dude! DO NOT use cooking oil! Linseed oil is the only thing you can use. Cooking oil will wreck your bat, it will absorb way too much in the wood and will make the willow really soft. This would mean that there would be much more dents and cracks occuring in your bat.

EeeeeeeeeW! Cooking oil? lol,you will have the woodworms all excited. Cooking oil tends to go strange after a while so I wouldn't put it on my bat. Linseed is best IMO.

    Substitute for cooking oil?

Im on a strict diet and I like to make lemon chicken on the stove alot. Is there anything else besides cooking oil or butter that I can use to cook the chicken? Ive tried pam but the chicken still seems to stick to the pan alot. Any advice because the oil adds way to much fat and calories, ThanksSubstitute for cooking oil?
The vegetable oil will be healthier than butter. If you are just using it as a sautee oil, you should be fine. In fact, 1 TBSP of vegetable oil a day is perfectly ok.

Pam is not a food, the chemical propellant used is toxic, but they don't put a label on it because the FDA said that its ';not food'; and so they don't regulate it. (this was on the news a while ago) I use Pam VERY scarcely because it is synthetic.

Olive Oil is also not an ok sautieeing oil and shouldn't be used for high-heat cooking, only cold salad dressing, pastas, sauces, etc. (its ok for re-heating or for cooking something in the microwave every once in a while, but I don't use it to sautee) The characteristics of the oil change under such a high heat.

You should use a specialty high-heat oil like Safflower (not canola) oil for sauteeing. An even better oil is coconut oil, but you will get the slight taste of coconut (depending on the dish, this may not be a problem though). Peanut oil is a grey area. It lends a strong peanut taste to the dish, but it is a good high-heat oil, however it has more fat than coconut or safflower oil (I use it rarely).

I use Spectrum brand safflower oil for all my sauteeing, and as a substitute to butter or cooking/canola oil in recipes. It tastes and looks exactly the same, but has a better tolerance for high-heat cooking.

If you us 1-2 TBSP of safflower/high-heat oil to grease the pan, that won't add many extra calories since you aren't eating the whole 1-2 TBSP, it just lightly coats the chicken. All vegetable oils that are liquid at room temperature are the good kind of polyunsaturated fat. Butter is saturated fat, and margerine is hydrogenated trans fat (very bad). So oil is a very reasonable butter substitute, and 1-2 TBSP is necessary in a healthy dietSubstitute for cooking oil?
You may think this sounds crazy but try white vinegar.I thought it sounded awful but I tried it and its GOOD,it doesnt have a real strong vinegar taste like you might think it would and its healthy.
Steam your dish. I make lemon chicken by putting sliced lemon rounds of one or 2 lemons, some soy sauce and sone Stevia over pieces of chicken (without skin) in a 9'; deep glass pie plate.

No oil is necessary. It's good.
water just add a little water and i will keep it from sticking and not add any fat or calories!!
    olive oil is relatively healthy.
    try grape-seed oil

Do some of the calories in olive oil cook off?

My mom is positive that as you cook with the olive oil, some of the calories are 'cooked' off. Is that even possible? Is it true?Do some of the calories in olive oil cook off?
No, unfortunately it's not true. Extra virgin olive oil is taken from the first ';squeeze'; and contains less fat than virgin olive oil. However, all olive oils will partially solidify at room temperature. Which means it's doing this in your arteries too. These fats contain the calories, and cannot be cooked out.

I learned this in nursing school (nutrition class), but anyone is welcome to check my facts. The only healthy oil is canola, because it is never solid at room temperature. Olive oil is generally 5% fat, while canola is 3%. Also, cooking olive oil kills any healthy nutrients it contains. You can, however, get nutrients from olive oil if it is used in a vinegarette dressing (uncooked).Do some of the calories in olive oil cook off?
all oil seems to some extent to cook off, however olive oil is good for you. Italians are healthy because they brush olive oil on everything in sight and even dunk their bread in it. I wouldn't worry about olive oil if I were here, it's the best she can get.
    Hi-

    No.

Calories do not cook off unless you destroy the food by burning it up completely.

Most oils pretty much have the same number of calories per tablespoon, etc.

Olive oil has so many health benefits but they are changed by heat. Best to use it for salads and other cold foods. Try other oils that don't change with heat, like coconut oil. Also use minimal oil in cooking, like stir-frying. Some of the oil can be replaced with other liquid, like soy sauce or broth.

    Hope this helps.
No, if you cook with olive oil, it's stay the same, it doesn't go away, the calories stay the same.
nope lol I wish this were true of lots of food can u imagine I am cooking everything so absolutely no calories.. good thought but NOPE
She shouldn't be worried about the calories in olive oil. The health benefits far outweigh any worry about calories. Olive oil is full of the kind of fat your body needs. Your mother needs to learn to read up on these things and get facts.

And do not listen to Lantana, she is really grossly misinformed.
Nope, the calories don't cook off. The olive oil is usually absorbed by whatever it is you'r e cooking. That may be why she thinks they're 'cooked off'.
In cooking the oil is not heated to the point it would vaporize if it did so the food would not taste very good, the vapors you see coming from the cooking food are mostly just steam.

If you think that any one can get away with out paying taxes to the government you are sadly mistaken... It's a logical way to pay for the roads, since the people that drive more provide a bigger proportion of financial support. If you drive only on private land -- such as farms and ranches -- you don't have to pay fuel tax. I'm a bit surprised they went after the folks with the VW diesel; so few people burn veg oil in their cars that it hardly seem worth the effort to collect the tax.
The combination of raw ethanol and various esters derived from cooking fuel could really undermine the petroleum industry.

Americans eat a lot of oily food, the left over waste is an excellent companion additive for ethanol.

This was supposed to have been kept secret. I learned it from listening in on some serious oil industry honchos.

    You heard it here.
Well, when the Big Changes come, you won't have to worry about taxes.
of course we would have to pay tax on water fulled cars nobody is going to let that one go

It's a little past the date..but it has never been opened. Is it okay to use???Does cooking oil go bad?? If it hasn't been opened?
It's probably fine to use. A little past the date is nothing to worry about. Just give it a sniff when you open it. The smell of rancid oil is unmistakable.Does cooking oil go bad?? If it hasn't been opened?
Olive oil I think is iffy. Just throw it out. That's typically why they put expiration dates on stuff.
umm i tink it will be fine. but use it soon cuz after like a month itll go bad.

    Used cooking oil?

Where can i buy used cooking oil in bulk for the production of biodiesel?Used cooking oil?
For now you should be able to go to any Mom and Pop run restaurant to get their used oil. When the popularity of biodiesel creeps ever higher you'll have to begin competing for the oil.

You can also post an ad the day after Thanksgiving for any used cooking oil. The current trend is to deep fry turkeys for dinner, and that leaves about 4 to 5 gallons of used oil in each house that uses this method. For someone with a diesel car this could be a goldmine that will give them at least a few months worth of fuel.Used cooking oil?
tyy fast foods they use alot of oil
I have heard that you can go to any restaurant that uses it. More than likely they will give it to you so they don't have to dispose of it.

    Cooking Oil VS Natural oil?

Cooking oil like: Canola, Olive are they still healthy after undergoing manufacturing processes?

I know naturally their oil are good to health because they are mono, polysaturated. But howabout cooking oil?

And Will u verify ur answerCooking Oil VS Natural oil?
I'm not sure what you mean by cooking oil vs Natural as cooking oil is Natural. However, I do know that the only to oils you should cook with are olive oil or flax seed oil as the others contain trans fats and can cause maculer degeneration.

What oil is the best for cooking?

Cooking at high temperatures can damage oils. The more omega 3 fatty acids in the oil, the less suitable it is for cooking. The heat not only damages the fatty acids, it can also change them into harmful substances. Hydrogenated oils are often used for cooking. Because these oil have already been ';damaged'; by chemical processing, they are less likely to be further damaged by heat. The oils that are higher in saturated fats or monounsaturates are the most stable when heated. These include peanut oil and olive oil. The more fragile oils are best used at room temperature, like salad dressings.

    THE BEST OILS

    1. Flaxseed

Best source of omega 3 fatty acids; has heart- healthy properties; is a colon-friendly oil; lessens constipation; boosts immunity; promotes healthy skin; contains the healthy phytonutrient, lignin; spoils quickly without careful storage; not to be used in cooking

    2. Canola

One of the lowest oils in saturated fats, making it a heart-friendly oil; a rich source of essential omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

    3. Soybean

Contains both omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, but is often highly refined and hydrogenated.

    4. Olive oil (virgin or extra virgin)

Doesn't need high temperature or chemical processing, since it is made from the flesh of the olive and not the seed; slow to spoil; okay for medium-temperature cooking; in moderation lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol without affecting HDL, (good) cholesterol thereby improving the HDL-to-LDL ratio.

    5. Pumpkin seed

Low in saturated fats; rich in omega-6 fatty acids, may contain some omega 3's; refining and chemical processing lowers the nutritional qualities.

    MEDIUM OILS

    COMMENTS

    1. Safflower

Low in saturated fats, rich in omega 6 fatty acids.

    2. Sunflower

Rich in omega 6 fatty acids.

    3. Corn

Slightly higher in saturated fats than the best oils; usually hydrogenated; rich source of omega 6 fatty acids

    4. Peanut

Somewhat high in saturated fats but still less than butter, animal fat, and cottonseed oil; good for cooking at higher temperatures.

    WORST OILS

    COMMENTS

    1. Cottonseed

High in saturated fats; likely to contain pesticide residues; frequently hydrogenated.

    2. Palm kernel

High in saturated fats, therefore a potentially cholesterol-raising oil.

    3. Coconut

Highest in saturated fats of all popular oils; one of the most heart-unhealthy oils. What oil is the best for cooking?

It really depends on what you're cooking and how you're cooking it. I use olive oil everyday for sauteing and browning foods at a relatively moderate heat. If you need to brown something at a very high heat then use vegetable oil. I use canola oil for baking and making cornbread. For frying I use peanut oil or vegetable oil since they have a higher smoke point and are less likely to become rancid after one use. Don't use olive oil for baking since its flavor is too strong and will overwhelm your baked goods.

  • SPILLED COOKING OIL ON SHEEPS SKIN BOOT YESTERDAY...HOW TO GET OUT! PLEASE HELP!?!?!?

I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET STAIN OUT....THE BOOTS ARE BROWN AND THE OIL LEFT A DARK STAIN....IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET OUT?SPILLED COOKING OIL ON SHEEPS SKIN BOOT YESTERDAY...HOW TO GET OUT! PLEASE HELP!?!?!?
if it were my boots I would apply the same cooking oil to both boots on all surfaces so you have an even penetration.

because leather (or sheep skin) is skin it will naturally absorb the oils and the oils will eventually spread out through the leather to an even consistency. you may never be able to get all the oil out of the boots but as long as both boots are the same color it will be fine and the darkness will fade with time just like your hands get dry out after a while and you have to reapply moisturizer.

if you have a boot tree you can actually soak the boots in luke warm water and mild dish liquid solution (like 2 or 3 drops in a sink full of water) them rinse them thoroughly with luke warm water rubbing the leather/skin with your hands. don't scrub with anything or you will wreck the texture of the material.

then boot the boots on the boot tree and leave at room temperature to dry slowly over several days. DO NOT use a hair dryer, heater or fan. this will cause the leather to dry too fast and it will warp out of shape and ruin your boots.

if you have fur on the boots it can be fluffed up by using the vacuum cleaner on it on low power, it will extend the hairs out straight and prevent clumping.

good luck and i hope you are happy with the results.

Don't use any cleaners or heavy detergents on itt or you will strip the natural oils out of the skin and permanently ruin your boots.SPILLED COOKING OIL ON SHEEPS SKIN BOOT YESTERDAY...HOW TO GET OUT! PLEASE HELP!?!?!?
Smother the oil in talcum powder to absorb the oil, leave it on for about 20 minutes, then shake or beat the talcum powder off. You may need to do this a few times to remove all the oil.

If they're Ugg boots that can be washed, a super great way to get rid of oil is to smear dish washing liquid on the oil, let it sit a few minutes then run the boots through a gentle wash cycle (just water), then let them air dry a few days.

But try the talcum first before you subject them to water.

First thing to do is purchase a round screen to put on top of you skillet for less splatting. You can purchase these in most stores. I purchased mine at the grocery store. It really helps with all the splatting. You should be able to purchase on at most kitchen departments.

Try some kind of spot remover to get rid of the stains. Cooking oil is pretty difficult to get rid of. Give a spot remover a try.

U can run a diesel car on cooking oil, it has to have been used first tho, and add 20ml of white spirit, to every 5 litres of oil

is not illegal to run it on the roads, but U do need to tell the tax man, so he can charge U the tax on it, which is not fair but that's the way it goes, oh U car will also smell like what ever was cooked in the oil, the exhaust gases that is
I haven't heard of any laws banning it. But I assume there must be some reason everyone isn't going out and clearing the shelves of their local supermarket to use vegetable oil as fuel.
Customs and excise will fine you heavily , it's not worth it. All motor fuel is heavily taxed.
dumbass, go ahead, dump old oil in your car, see what happens. then email me.
I have heard of that. I think you have to refine it somehow. That can be dangerous (refining the oil yourself)
I have never heard that it is illegal to run a road vehicle on veggie oil. Red ';field'; diesel is illegal because it is not up to standards quality wise for road use. Since I doubt any lawmaker or government agency ever bothered to establish a standard for vegtable oil (since there's probably less than 1000 vehicles converted for using it) I don't think you have to worry at all.
As I understand it, if you are using it as a fuel, you must pay duty.

The Guardian has an interesting article on this http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,360鈥?/a>
In Europe they are using sunflower oil to run buses.
It is 100% illegal to run a motor vehicle on the public road on Red Diesel.

You can, however, use vegetable oil. You do have to register with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and complete a monthly return on how much you use.

I mix Straight Vegetable OIl and Diesel in a 50/50 mix. SVO is normally rapeseed oil available at Tesco's.

The fuel tank on my vehicle takes 90 litres, so if I can save a few quid, I will.
The LAW as it stands in the UK is:

ALL users must pay 'fuel duty' on any product used.

Recycled veg oil is included. You still need to give Mr G Brown his tax.

You can physically run a diesel car WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE OR MODIFICATION on: Vegetable oil (NEW), commercial diesel, 'heavy oil' - used for domestic heating / kerosene (higher cetane rating - can burn a bit hot, but a great cold start fuel).

Only old vegetable oil requires processing - new 'rape seed' or generic cooking oil does not - straight in the tank.

Most users cut the oil 50/50 with diesel from a pump - this helps flow on cold days, and of course all pay the relevant taxes.
no but you have to register with cos tums to pay tax on it cheaper then fuel

Hi world, can cooking oil be used as fuel for cars?[as diesel]?

Yes, properly refined and with engine modifications for efficiency. A regular diesel engine can process other oils, it just takes some modification to make it as efficient as possible.Hi world, can cooking oil be used as fuel for cars?[as diesel]?
yes can be put directly into diesel cars only. you will need to mix the oil with diesel as well, or use some thing to thin the oil.Hi world, can cooking oil be used as fuel for cars?[as diesel]?
    yes, just as corn can
with some additives/processing, and a little modification of your car, yes

lmao at the wrath guy above.....you do that, drive around your portable bomb
No, because the diesel has some kind of material in it that helps your car move. It's just like you won't use gasoline to cook your dinner, right?
It can the first diesel engines actually used peanut oil for fuel but the major problem is number one cost to do the conversion and finding enough cooking oil to make it worth bothering with.
    Absolutely!

There are a few things that need to happen first though.

First find a few local resaurants that will let you go and pickup their used cooking oil. They have to pay to get rid of it, so all you have to do is undercut the person they are paying and you can earn money while making your own biodiesel.

Then you need to filter the oil and take samples and see its PH balance. Then you will add some KOH (Lye) and another thinning agent. Then there are additives you can add if you live in a cold region.

If you get a good kit, it ends up costing under .80 cents per gallon and may take you a few hours to make a large batch which can last for a month or two.

    Hope that helps,
I have a friend in Kansas that gets the oil from local restaurants, there is quite a process to refine it but he average @1.20 a gallon. Its a diesel btw.
I'm not sure it's cooking oil, but I know that there is a fuel made from corn oil, and that there are a few vehicles that run on it.
Yes cooking oil can be used with a diesel engine with slight modifications.

The car will smell like a chip van when stuck in a traffic jam and if the authorities find out they will charge duty on what has now become fuel.
A couple of years ago I read an article in the newspaper about a couple who does that. They go to restaurants and get the used oil and through a process I don't know about they convert it to usable fuel.

This is what I found on the subject:

Many vegetable oils have similar fuel properties to diesel fuel, except for higher viscosity and lower oxidative stability. If these differences can be overcome, vegetable oil may substitute for #2 Diesel fuel, most significantly as engine fuel or home heating oil.

For engines designed to burn #2 diesel fuel, the viscosity of vegetable oil must be lowered to allow for proper atomization of fuel, otherwise incomplete combustion and carbon build up will ultimately damage the engine. Many enthusiasts refer to vegetable oil used as fuel as waste vegetable oil (WVO) if it is oil that was discarded from a restaurant or straight vegetable oil (SVO) to distinguish it from Biodiesel.

    Home Heating

With often minimal modification, most residential furnaces and boilers which are designed to burn No. 2 heating oil can be made to burn either biodiesel or filtered, preheated waste vegetable oil. These are generally not as clean-burning as petroleum fuel oil, but if processed at home, by the consumer, can result in considerable savings. Many restaurants will give away their used cooking oil either free or at minimal cost, and processing to biodiesel is fairly simple and inexpensive. Burning filtered WVO directly is somewhat more problematic, since it is much more viscous, but it can be accomplished with suitable preheating. WVO can thus be a very economical heating option for those with the necessary mechanical and experimental aptitude
A better alternative in the uk is heating oil 35p a litre all you need is a oil tank to store it in.use 5litres of regular diesel yto evry tank full of heating oil.Theres no difference in performance just no cleaning agents in oil.

this is illegal though ,I wouldn`t do it. (cough) Ithink i`ve a cold coming on.
Yep. Downside is, you'll have to get a new filter quite often...
there are ways to use cooking oil as fuel for cars...the engine has to be redesigned to accept the oil instead of diesel or unleaded.
Most diesels will run on processed cooking oils. The oils are refined and the vehicle will run with no modifications to the vehicle.
Yes and it is right now...kind of a rolling french fry
The best gasoline alternative I've heard is described at Hydrogen Technology Applications, Inc. Type it into your browser and be amazed!
I dont know, but if so it's time to go diesel, cooking oil is $1.98 per gallon, far cheaper then Gas
So is this a new way of eating of the run. If the police dip your tank and find it's cooking oil I wonder what would they think.
no- and in most countries its illegal to even try
Rudolph Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine. designed the engine to run on Peanut Oil.

This modern day concoction we call Diesel or Derv. is a concoction of chemicals designed by the oil companies to rake in profits and pollute the atmosphere.

There is no reason whatsoever for most Diesel Engines not to run on V.O. and mine does quite happily.

It is not illegal and requires only an A4 registration document with the revenue people and a self declaration each month on how much you are using.

The engine runs quieter, gives as much if not more power, is cheaper, produces zero toxins and extends the life of the engine due to the lubricity of the oil.

If everyone started to use this oil, it would immediately put every farmer in the world to work trying to grow enough crops to keep up with demand.

Third world countries with no export industries would suddenly have a world market to trade with and the oil companies would lose billions.

Now what is so wrong with that!
i think sun flower oil can
Yup it can. ';Mythbusters'; have proved it and they did not modify their car (but then again... who knows?) As far as I know it can be used once its been filtered loads to remove any food stuffs... I don't know about any long term damage though... I'm sure if you wrote to someone (like I said Mythbusters...) they may be able to help you out... Or just any one that knows their stuff really. Good look in finding your answer :)
yes, but it needs to be refined into diesel first. It's called bio-diesel and it can be refined from cooking oil and even old tires. Check it out at biodiesel.org!
yes. with minor modification, your car can run on cooking oil instead of diesel fuel. some can even run on filtered (used) cooking oil. although doing so will make the exhaust smell like french fries.
Yes, there is a man who developed an engine kit that can be installed to convert your vehicle to use ';used'; cooking oil. He was getting oil from fast food restaurants. From what I seen on it, it costs a lot in order to do the conversion.
Absolutely! Of course, there are some drawbacks. Vegetable oil is thicker than diesel, and you can't just stop at a station and top off your tank if you have to take an unexpected detour. Of course, it can be cheaper than gas. Most fast food restaurants will provide you with a used supply for free. They have to pay to have someone dispose of it, so they are happy to give it away. There are a few modifications that need to be made for optimum engine performance, and you should still try to walk or bicycle when possible, because as another user pointed out, it isn't exhaust free. It does put less of a strain on our natural resources and lessens our dependence on foreign oil. The last Independent candidate for Arkansas governor drives an oil powered diesel when his bicycle isn't practical. I don't think it is a long term solution for most people, since it is inconvenient- and your car smells like french fries- but for quick trips around town, it can help reduce your gas bill.
It can but those Oils and Ethnaol are not a CLEAN burning solution. Ethanol actually produces more harmful vapors than gas.
Based on the recent newscasts, yes. They are actually even talking about having restaurants provide used cooking oil for this purpose.
Can you cook chips while you drive then.
    Yes, however it is illegal.....

I`m a type 2 diabetic patient.is it healthier if i use non refined sunflower oil for cooking?

I think you are spending too much time in health food store. Canola, olive oil and vegetable sprays would be both healthier and more cost effective.

Deep frying requires a high flash point, so commercial restaurants use peanut oil or oils such as Frymax which have better long term results. If you are trying to maintain weight loss, you won't be deep frying. Canola oil breaks down so it isn't good for anything but salads and normal cooking, but not frying. Olive oil has a low flash point, so it can't be used for anything hotter than sauteing.I`m a type 2 diabetic patient.is it healthier if i use non refined sunflower oil for cooking?
AS a type 2 your health is determined by the amount of glucose you need or do not need to consume. Oil does not constitute a glucose substance.I`m a type 2 diabetic patient.is it healthier if i use non refined sunflower oil for cooking?
I hear that rapeseed oil is much better than sunflower oil. Something to do with it being mono as apposed to polyunsaturated. Look it up on the web.
Oils for cooking have absolutely nothing to do with healthy eating for type 2 diabetics! Oils are only for keeping stuff from sticking to the cooking pan.

I use butter and very little of that! It is a natural fat with no preservatives in it.
Yes. It will not immediately affect your blood glucose level one way or another. But, avoiding heavy, fatty oils (like vegetable oil) when cooking may help you to lose weight - which will help better manage blood sugar in the long run.

Try this. Instead of cutting your spuds in the traditional quarters for roasting. Cut them in half, flat ways, if you know what I mean. Grease a shallow dish, a biscuit dish, with butter. Place the potato flat side down and brush the tops with melted butter. Bake. This gives you less fat, make them as crispy, or not, as you like. Bewdiful!!!

And much healthier. I often sprinkle grated cheese on top for the last 10 minutes.Cooking oil for roast spuds?
I found that olive oil works well for me. Make sure the oven is at top temperature if possible, but if it have to share the oven with the meat, make sure your potatoes can go on the top of the oven, that's where it's hottest. Heat the oil until you can smell it, then take out and put the parboiled (10 minutes) potatoes as quickly as you can, and baste them well. Place in the oven for 30 minutes, take out, flip them and give them another 20 minutes.
I'd suggest olive or canola oil.

I just recently heard of ';Orville Reddenbacher's popcorn oil.'; Sounds interesting, like maybe it has a butter flavor to it. Haven't tried it yet, but another advantage is it probably has a very high smoking point.

    Good luck!
goose fat is the best stuff to use.

If you don't fancy that then....

pop your peeled spuds in a pan of water and bring to the boil.

Boil for a couple of minutes.

    drain.

toss the spuds in a little flour.

Toss in a couple of spoons of sunflower oil.

    Roast.
    any oil will do

i use garlic infused olive oil from Tesco they are great

also use duck fat you get this beside the butter in most supermarkets
Apparently top chefs use animal fat - sorry if you are vegetarian or on a low fat diet. I too had difficulty with oils and so now resort to good old fashioned lard which always delivers the best roasties!
Par boil them first then coat them with a very light olive oil. The flavor is mild so it won't compete with any other herbs or seasonings that you decide to use.
Crisp n Dry is the best. To get them really crispy par boil them for a few minutes first and rough up the edges, then put them in hot oil in the oven.
just use sunflower of vegetable oil they work fine for me or use half olive oil have veg or sunflower

a good tip is to get the oil hot before you put in the potatoes
I most always use sunflower oil and never seem to have a problem, crispy roast potatoes every time.
I just made them tonight and any sunflower oil is perfect really - you don't need a very expensive oil
it seems all my family who are old enough to cook including myself use crisp N dry solid

I have 100% pure olive oil .can i use it for cooking?

i am cooking for a diabetic ,heart patient..I have 100% pure olive oil .can i use it for cooking?
I wouldn't use 100% olive oil Its really heavy and not meant to cook in. Its meant to lightly drizzle..

I would sunflower oil Its much healthier

Good Luck ;-)I have 100% pure olive oil .can i use it for cooking?
Healthier choice and safe for diabetics. I wouldnt use olive oil for deep frying due to a low smoking point. It's good for sauteeing and if it's extra virgin oo it's great on a salad or for dipping bread.
of course, as long as there is no added sugar, read the content!
Just don't heat it too hot, it looses the health benefits
if your oil it is simple olive oil you can surely use for cooking purpose but if your oil is extra vergine olive oil the best use is for raw dishes, salad, tomatoes bread and best for bruschetta.

Bruschetta is toasted bread on rubbed a gar lick clove small fine iodized salt and generous amount of Italian extra vergine olive oil.
Absolutely, very healthy for them.I would use it sparingly.Good choice.
Sure you can, it is healthier and better for most dishes. Dip your feshly baked bread in a good 100% virgin olive oil for every bite is just heavenly.

Absolutely. Olive oil is one of the best oils you can use in cooking. Use canola oil for frying things, and use olive oil for everything else, sprinkle olive oil on vegetables, on salads. No problem at all. Make sure the next time you buy the olive oil, buy Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as it is much more superior than regular pure olive oil.
Best to check with the patient's physician, or reference the dietary instructions s/he surely received.
Yes you can use it for cooking .It is healthier than grease
yes. it's better that using vegatable oil. healthier
yes,it has no sugar.its better than other oil.....
Yes, just don't heat it up to a high temperature. I use it all the time for cooking. It's also great, with a little pure balsamic vinegar, for dipping bread in. Yummy!

  • Can you get cooking oil off jeans? :(?

is this possible? plz help this is my fave pair!!Can you get cooking oil off jeans? :(?
Use dish detergent (dawn, palmolive, etc.) It breaks down the grease and you can rinse it out.Can you get cooking oil off jeans? :(?
If you havent washed them yet, you try scrubbing the spot with dawn dish soap.
it will come off Treat the grease spot with Oxi-Clean. Then wash. If spot is still there, don't dry the jeans, treat again and rewash

    good luck
get some shout....then spray on oil stain....soak in cold water overnight....this gets all my stains out.
I can not express it enough...

    OXI-CLEAN!
The best solution I've found is this:

Put cornstarch on the stain and let it sit for 24 hours. Brush off, and repeat.

After the second treatment, throw 'em in the wash.

Before drying them, make sure the stain is out. If it isn't, then re-treat with more cornstarch.

If you've already washed and dried them, the stain is probably permanent. Drying any article of clothing that is still stained most of the time sets the stain for life, so make positive that it's out beforehand.
This will work: Get some old fashioned OCTAGON bar soap. Wet the jeans and the soap and rub the bar on the oil spots until you work up some suds. Scrub the spots a little with an old toothbrush. Then, wash the jeans as usual.

If you can't find a bar of OCTAGON soap, go to the Vermont Country Store website. They have it, I do believe.

    Good luck.
One time there was a crayon in my dryer, got all over EVERYTHING, a friend suggested to wash the clothes in LESTOIL, and, it worked. If none of the suggestions you have received works, depending on how big the stain is and where its located, you could go to a fabric store and get a pretty patch to sew over it.
no. by the way it must look so cool anyway.

Denver to tax cooking oil. What won't be taxed next?

http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_12鈥?/a>Denver to tax cooking oil. What won't be taxed next?
This is what happens when you let the government punish other people for their bad habits.

Gee, I don't smoke, so go ahead and tax cigarettes!

Gee, I don't drink, so go ahead and tax alcohol!

When will people wake up and realize that, eventually, they will come for you?

Are human beings doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes generation after generation? Can't we ever progress to intelligence as the norm, not the exception?

.Denver to tax cooking oil. What won't be taxed next?
I believe they are taxing the oil because used fryer oil can be sold to make bio diesel and they haven't figured out how to tax that yet. And if they have then this tax is illegal as it is a form of double taxing
These worthless politician assholes have no shame.
Breathing fresh air will not be taxed.

    2 points.
This is a local issue...complain to the Denver City Council...DUH!
You have got to be kidding. That article had to be straight tabloid?

    Cooking oil + arm=scars? Help!?

I have accidentally spill some cooking oil into many places of my arm and found it has been healed. However, it left many patches of brown spots surround the slightly pink inside. I tried to use lustra for two months now and has not seen results. Does anyone know if bio-oil would work? Does anyone know if chemical peel or laser would work? I've read a lot of comments on how lasser does not work..i'm a little worried. Thank you!Cooking oil + arm=scars? Help!?
One of my first jobs was in a fish and chips restaurant.

I had burn scars on both my arms from the hot oil.

Less than a year after I left that job the scars faded away completely on their own.Cooking oil + arm=scars? Help!?
Use some Vitamin E oil to lighten the area. The Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that stops the production of more melatonin. Therefore, lightening scars and marks.
try the cocoa butter, if not try vitamin a oil, or camellia oil on the scarred areas
apply coconut oil at least 5 times in 1 day
I have tried mederma and vitamin e nothing gets rid of my scars. I have lots of burns on my arms from cooking, I'm a chef. I'd like to know something better to use as well.

I just used cooking oil (spray 'pam' type stuff)?

after cleaning a bicycle and chain with dish soap/water. Then, I spayed the parts with the 'pam' oil and THE CHAIN. Is it okay? And is it okay on the chain ? Thanks.I just used cooking oil (spray 'pam' type stuff)?
That stuff will attract gnats and mosquitoes. Use proper chain lube. You can get it at a bike shop or hardware store. Wash chains with Gunk, not soap and water. Your chain will start rusting soon.I just used cooking oil (spray 'pam' type stuff)?
I'm sure it won't hurt anything, but an actual chain lube would be better.
It probably will not hurt the parts or the chain. Why don't you get a discarded can/plastic bottle of motor oil from the service station. There's always a drop or two left in the discarded can. Perfect for a bicycle. Good Luck.

    Cooking oil out of clothes?

How can you get cooking oil/grease out on a blouse that was washed and dried with the stain in? I didn't see it til after the fact. ArghhhCooking oil out of clothes?
Try Using some Dawn or try spraying some WD 40 on the stain and rubbing it in then rewash. I have heard that Coca Cola will remove a set in grease stain but I Haven't tried it so I don't know if it works. I recommend you get some Lestoil and give that a try. A grease stain that has been dried and or ironed may be very difficult to remove. Lestoil is the best thing to get them out once they are set in. Check the reviews on this site and you may be inspired to pick some up.

    http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.a鈥?/a>Cooking oil out of clothes?
pre-treating first with a product like ';Goof Off'; or ';Xtreme Goo Gone'; (I like the kind in the spray can best), then covering the stain with a little dishwashing liquid, rubbing it in with a toothbrush, and washing as usual. This can be repeated as necessary, but usually works with one washing
Rub Corn starch on stain and wait a few minutes before washing. If it still shows, Dawn is also good, or even amonia ( hold you nose for this one, though)
Take some Dawn dish soap to the stain. Scrub it down and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it out.

  • Oiling my cricket bat? Does it has to be Linseed oil or can i use regular oil for cooking?

wat to do guysOiling my cricket bat? Does it has to be Linseed oil or can i use regular oil for cooking?
Dude! DO NOT use cooking oil! Linseed oil is the only thing you can use. Cooking oil will wreck your bat, it will absorb way too much in the wood and will make the willow really soft. This would mean that there would be much more dents and cracks occuring in your bat.

So use Linseed oil. Nothing else.Oiling my cricket bat? Does it has to be Linseed oil or can i use regular oil for cooking?
EeeeeeeeeW! Cooking oil? lol,you will have the woodworms all excited. Cooking oil tends to go strange after a while so I wouldn't put it on my bat. Linseed is best IMO.
you must use linseed oil. cooking oil is completely different. you may as well use engine oil. oils ain't oils as the old tv commercial says
want to know all about Cricket just visit http://www.questioncricket.com
i have had the same cricket bat for 7 years and never oiled it once

so not only do i not know but i dont see the point
IF U WILL OIL THE BAT THEN WAT WILL HAPPEN

    NOTHING
I think u should use Linseed oil

    I am positive

Not harmful at all, though if you drank a lot (like a cupful) it can act as a laxative.
No. Cooking oil is not harmful. We cook with it, don't we? And use it in salad dressings.
not at all...many people use cooking oil in vinagrette salad dressing.

    Your fine! ;)
if you put it in your food, you can eat it....

Anybody know how to get the oil out of eggplant when cooking melanzana or similar so it's not so greasy when f

Put it on some paper towel to drench the oil or just spray them with olive oil, or use a pastry brush with oil before cooking...Anybody know how to get the oil out of eggplant when cooking melanzana or similar so it's not so greasy when f
The secret is: do not fry the eggplants!

I either grill the eggplants whole, then peel and slice before assembly of the casserole.

Another method is to boil the eggplants whole, then peel and slice before mixing with the other ingredients.

I also save a lot of time by skipping one step: I do not salt and squeeze dry the eggplants.

Try these shortcuts. I've been doing them for years and no one suspects my secrets.

    Solubility Of Cooking Oil?

Which of the following would cooking oil be most soluble?

    Phenol

    Water

    Ethanol

    Hexane

    AcetoneSolubility Of Cooking Oil?
Hexane it dissolves cooking oil well, and is used throughout the industry for cleaning tanks etc. I still remember welders who had to weld a cooking oil storage tank, they were sent in the tank before the Hexane (which had been used to prepare the tank) was purged. Two died and one was seriously burnt when they lit their welding torches.Solubility Of Cooking Oil?
Hexane, because both cooking oil and hexane are non-polar.
answer acetone. writing water as solvent choice is stupid thing for an oil.
