Which type of thermometer do i need to check cooking oil?

a candy thermometer, it's made for high temperatures and it clips to the side of the panWhich type of thermometer do i need to check cooking oil?
a candy thermometer is the correct answer if you want to check an oil over about 250, otherwise you could use a meat thermometer.. but I have a question to all the wrong answerers...

Any quick read thermometer you can buy in the cooking section of the store will work for oil.
Candy thermometer that you stick directly into the oil.
Rachel Ray uses a wooden spoon. When the oil bubbles around it, it means that it is hot enough. Good luck
A rectal thermometer, preferablly unused.
An oven thermometer available at Wal-Mart etc.
