I normally throw them in a roasting pan, drizzle with some oil season with salt and turn them a few times to coat, and place in a 180C oven for 30 minutes approx. turning a couple of times. IF im cooking chicken pieces, do i put water in the container or oil to cook ? ?
If you want boiled chicken-like you are making chicken soup or cooking the chicken to use in another dish like a casserole- put a pan of water on the stove top to boil, when the water comes to a boil, add the chicken, simmer till the chicken is no longer pink on the inside.

If you want fried chicken use oil. If you are baking chicken, spray a pan with PAM or olive or vegetable oil and place the chicken in the pan and bake for 7 minutes a side.
Your question touches on four different ways to cook the chicken but doesn't specify which one you actually want to do.

You can boil it: water. You can start with the chicken in the cold water. This is starting with cut up chicken off the bone, like for making soup. This happens on the stovetop

You can deep-fry it: oil. Individual chicken parts: thighs, legs, etc. There you want to start with hot oil, don't put the chicken in until the oil hits about 325 degrees. Stovetop again.

You can pan-fry it: oil again, or just a good hot Teflon skillet with a little butter or soy sauce. This works with boneless breasts, shreds like for soup, and depending on what you're doing, pieces like for deep frying. Stovetop.

You can bake it: dry, covered, in a roasting dish. Just a little water or soy sauce in the bottom of the dish, and cover with foil or a lid. Oven.
whether the chicken is breaded or not you are going to use oil.

There is not need to put the chicken in the oven.

if the chicken is frozen, run it under hot water and then defrost it in the microwave based on how much it weighs.

Cut the chicken into strips or pieces, whichever you prefer.

Put a small amount (but enough) of oil..I use vegetable oil.. in the pan -- you can even just use butter for this. Put the pieces of chicken into the oil once it gets hot (be careful! This often results in popping!)

and keep an eye on them, turning them over when necessary.
What kind of chicken are you making? And by container do you mean a pot?

If you are boiling chicken? If so then there is no need to put the chicken on the oven.

If you are frying it then bring the oil to 350 degrees. A 3.00 thermometer will help with this. You need about 3-4 inches of oil minimum. If the chicken is completely submerged in the oil then you will need to cook it 15 minutes. If it does not completely submerge then you will need to fry it for longer.

Some people like to fry and just brown the chicken in the oil then bake it until it is cooked thru.

I prefer to fry mine for the 15 minutes though.
Boiling chicken takes a bit longer but usually it comes out more tender and its a more healthier way to cook. If youre using small pieces then you need about 15- 20 mins on the boil. If you are cooking a fillet then you need about 30 mins. Its more common though to fry peices of chicken. Just fry over a medium to high heat until they are browned all over. You need to keep turning them when frying.
okay, if you are covering them with bread crumbs or something like that, oil. but if you are just cooking them, a little bit of water not even an inch. some chicken doesn't even need water because it has enough moisture on it's own. don't turn the heat too high or else the water will evaporate and keep the lid on to keep more of the moisture in! i hope it turns out delicious.
If you're going to roast the chicken, preheat the oven (I normally use 180 degrees). Place the chicken in an ovenproof dish and fill the bottom of the dish with an inch of water (about 2 and a half cm). Place in the oven for 30 minutes... Remember, chicken should be cooked PROPERLY, and if it's pink, don't eat it!!
to fry chicken - a good drizzle of oil in a medium hot frying-pan on the hob/stove, add cubes of chicken, about an inch in size, then keep rotating the chicken cubes in the pan with a spatula for about 10-15mins till the chicken is completely white all-over, u could even let it go brown. the chicken pieces should have absolutley no pink fleshy bits on it
if you want chicken soup then add the water. All you have to do is use 1 tablespoon of oil in the pan. Make sure it coats the bottom so the chicken does not stick to the pan. Roast at 350 for 20 mins if the chicken is not frozen when you put it in the pan.

Grease your baking dish. Add seasoned chicken. Add 1/4 cup water, cover tightly w/ foil. Bake at 350潞F for about 35 min. Remove foil, put back in oven for abou t15-20 min to brown and let juices thicken. Will be wonderful, I promise!
I like to brown chicken first in some oil to get more flavour.

You can bake in the oven at 400F, without adding water.

Water will lower the cooking temperature for stewing.

But it will take longer than 15 minutes.
I normally fry chicken first to get it going, then place it in the oven. FRying would obviously be oil. But if you are cooking in the oven then it depends what kind of dish you are making.
Like breaded chicken nuggets? You just put them in the oven with no water or oil. There should be instructions on your package of chicken that tells how to cook it.
BUTTER IF FRYING

WATER IF BOILING

PUT IT IN A GREASED PAN IF COOOKING.
Water if your gonna boil the chicken, oil if your going to fry them.
what container are you talking about?
why not season add lemon juice and cook for 25 mins wrapped in foil in oven stays moist.
lol water?? u put oil!
what South said
