Well, I mean sure it wouldn't be out in the market if it didn't pass the food safety board or something. But why does it bubble alot when its already in the pan? I just can't help thinking that it's made the same way as air freshners / spray paint and such. Are spray-on cooking oils safe to use? Do manufacturers put other chemicals to make it spray?
I use good old fasion butter... Or oil... sister.. and thats it.... no Sprays.. look at is this way..
Spectrum uses a hydrocarbon blend of propane and isobutane. These naturally occurring gases are FDA approved, listed in the Code of Federal Regulations as GRAS (generally recognized as safe), and have an ozone depleting potential of zero.
Spectrum Naturals Spray Oils are expeller pressed oils in convenient aerosol spray cans. Four conventional 6-oz. varieties are available: High Heat Canola, Canola with Butter Flavor, Grapeseed and Olive. High Heat Canola is also available in a larger 16-oz. size
What are the advantages of cooking with Spectrum Spray Oils?
They're perfect partners for grilling, frying or baking. A quick spray or two allows the fresh flavors of your ingredients to shine through and prevents them from sticking. And Spray Oils are a great way to cut calories, too. Spectrum's Spray Oils are made from our own healthy oils that have been pressed without the use of hexane or other harmful petrochemicals. The canola oils are expeller pressed, the olive oils are cold pressed, and the grapeseed oil is alcohol extracted. No chlorofluorocarbons are used in the aerosol delivery system.
So I think you will be all right using this stuff but I prefer to lay the butter on myself... =)Are spray-on cooking oils safe to use? Do manufacturers put other chemicals to make it spray?

I think they are reasonably safe but they do contain several chemicals.I have used them in the past, but I think they have an odor when sprayed.RED FLAG!!I use olive oil or canola oil now and I get good results.
yeah a bit of jissom
It's aerosol, compressed air in a bottle mixed with cooking oil for easier application.
Nothing wrong, it's like blowing bubbles in soap, it's still soap it's just got bubbles in it. :-D
Yes! Make your own by buying a spray from a cookery store and mixing some oil e.g. olive or grapeseed, and water. Spray on pan before adding food.
I don't know the answer but I do know an excellent substitution. Papmpered Chef makes a spray bottle that you can fill with whatever kind of cooking oil you like. No aeresol added ... just 100% cooking oil. It's WAY cheaper this way, plus, easy to tell when it's running low.
