Why cooking oil was invented?

The cavemen got tired of throwing out their frying pan every time they cooked up some T-Rex, so they discovered that if they crushed up some corn prior to cooking their T-Rex steaks, then the steaks wouldn't stick.

This lead to the cavefolks inventing popcorn, movie theatres, $5 dollar Cokes, movies, surround sound and bad dates. Why cooking oil was invented?
Cause it tastes better with food then sewing oil ?Why cooking oil was invented?
so we can make frog masak kicap. frog goreng. frog masak lemak cili padi. dan sebagainye.. where the initial part of all the recipe stated earlier, we nid to tumis the bawang wif oil..
to make sure that the thing we fry do not stick to the frying pan ... and to add up some taste ...
to fry chicken
because.....
because we need to cook...
well, it gives an extra additional flavor to your food plus it acts as a '; lubricant '; on your pan so that the food wont get burned. even a non stick pan needs a lil help of oil too.
coz;

1) human don't want to be mistaken as donno how to cook, when their dishes 'hangus'

2) they get bored eating boiled food

3) fried food tastes better... add some onion n garlic...
To fry food in.
So that we dont cook our food with petrol

  • Why are you not supposed to use cooking oils/spray with non-stick frying pans?

I have a Pampered Chef Frying pan. If I cannot use oils, how do I fry?Why are you not supposed to use cooking oils/spray with non-stick frying pans?
A little oil is fine. No where does it say not to use oil. What they don't recommend is sprays like Pam because it tends to cause a sticky buildup that is hard to get off. The great thing with nonstick especially a nonstick quality pan is that you don't need much oil and it cooks evenly. Why are you not supposed to use cooking oils/spray with non-stick frying pans?
Some of the cooking sprays can cause staining of the pan.

What happens is the spray goes all over and when the pan heats up the cooking oil and the propellants that are used burn onto the surface of the pan. This builds up over time and while it is harmless it is unsightly and I would guess that they do not want to take the pans back when you finally notice the build up. It can be cleaned off but on a non stick pan the coating may come off.
I've never heard the ';do not use'; oils w/ it. I fry and saute in oil and butter all the time in my nonstick skillets. As long asyou use plastic or wooden utensils to avoid scratchign the surface, there shoudl be no problem.
Supposedly you don't have to. But even with a non stick pan, I still use cooking oil and/or pam. a little bit of searing is still nice. you can't use them for deep frying though, too much heat would peel off the teflon.
you can't use sprays, but oil is fine. The spray tends to make pans sticky.
No reason you CANNOT us an oil. I think the point is that you DONT NEED oil.
Unless it's high quality as has a good coat of non stick, I'd use a little oil

And if you're interested in how people can actually make their own, there is a site that explains it. http://www.freedomfuelamerica.com/produc鈥?/a>How can we make bio fuel from waste cooking oil.?
They already use it for fuel, a company my feance works for picks up various forms of waste oil, from waste cooking oil to waste motor oil, long story short, it ends up in asphault plants and papermills in place of fuel oil or deisal fuel in waste oil burners, They need alot of heat and they can go threw 2000 gals of fuel a day, so they save alot of money and help the envoroment alot by using waste oil instead of reguler fuels :)

Illegal dumping of used cooking oil?

    Hi,

I don't know what the question is exactly but a good friend of mine is a contractor and sets up restaurants here in Los Angeles. I know you have to pay to dump used cooking oil and there is paperwork and whatnot if you want to open a restaurant that will be doing this. That's what my friend helps facilitate with the city.

So... If you have a bunch of used cooking oil, I'd be really careful where you take it since you can get fined for illegal dumping.Illegal dumping of used cooking oil?

    Cooking Oil For Dry Hair?

I was reading a magazine and it said for dry hair, just put cooking oil on the ends of your hair. I thought it must be a good idea, then someone told me I'd never get the oil out, no matter how much shampoo I used...

Should I anyway?Cooking Oil For Dry Hair?
No I wouldn't unless you want your pillows to get all greasy, and depending how long your hair is, you might get your blouse all greasy. I have wavy dry hair, and I am going to recommend you a shampoo that I have been using and it has worked for me. Its called AGUAGE hydrating shampoo with Sea Silk Therapy. Plus the conditioner. And once your hair starts drying I recommend you put in some Serum drops in your hair. I use Biologe Soothing Serum, this stuff is really concentrated so you only use 2-4 drops on your hair. This stuff works!!! It smoothes dry unruly hair. Its a 4 oz bottle, But it goes a long way. I only use it after I shower when my hair is damp dry. Then I use a thermal Straightener on my hair and it leaves it shiny and smooth. Good Luck! It will cost a bit, but all three are very concentrated and you only use a little and get a whole lot out of it. You can find this at Beauty Salons, or Stores for example, Peerless Beauty Supply Store. or if you have a friend with a Cosmetology License they can probably find this stuff for you..Cooking Oil For Dry Hair?
I'm assuming you're talking about natural oils like olive oil. Yes, they are hard to get out but they are a natural way to repair damaged hair and *seal in moisture* - they are NOT moisturizers in and of themselves. Whoever said you can never get it out lied to you - it's harder to get out but it won't stay in your hair for forever, lol. How you get it out depends on the shampoos you use and how many times you wash. I sometimes do hot oil treatments with olive oil before I shampoo and I have to shampoo twice to get it all out, but that depends on the shampoo, and with some shampoos I have to shampoo more. I use a cleansing conditioner called Wen and this gets the oil out of my hair after two washes. It's well worth the difficulty in trying to get it out because my hair's health has seen major improvement since doing hot oils every time I wash.

If dryness is a problem then find a good moisturizer. Oils seal in moisture, so, for instance, if your hair dries out during the day then adding a bit of oil to your hair seals in the moisturizer and keeps it moisturized longer. Depending on your hair type the oil might make your hair greasy; ethnic and coarse hair can handle oil better. If dryness is what you're having a problem with then you need to find a good moisturizer and not use an oil to try to moisturize.

There are different types of natural oils and some are lighter than others. I have pure and extra virgin olive oil, pure coconut oil, pure jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil. Grapeseed and olive oils are the heaviest of the bunch. Extra virgin olive oil and lighter than pure olive oil. Jojoba and coconut oils are light oils. If you use an oil then I suggest you use a light oil that won't weight down your hair and make it too oily.
Some people use oils but usually for ethnic hair or mayo but there are better products to use. Use good products not Pantene, Herbal Essence %26amp; Garnier they are silicone products. They make you hair nice at first but as the silicone builds up it locks out moisture your hair weakens %26amp; breaks. Use pro products they last longer because you use less so the extra expense is worth it. The shampoos don't contain a detergent lathering agent so it's weird at first because you are used to lather. Great specialty products are, Nioxxin, Joico K-Pak Reconstructor also Silk Results, Rusk has New Pro Elements Keratin. Nexxus has Humectruss %26amp; Keraphixx. Big Sexy has good general products. Take Biotin %26amp; Vitamin E.
NOOOO do not do that. Go to a salon and ask for a conditioner that is for your hair type

    Do cooking oils go bad?

A friend has some Olive Oil and asked if I wanted it because she hardly ever uses it. The bottle is about 3/4 full and she says it's about 2-3 years old. is it still good?Do cooking oils go bad?
Cooking oils can go rancid. A number of factors affect the speed an oil turn bad. These include the variety of oil, the temperature it was stored at and light exposure.

The best way to tell is to smell it, then maybe try a taste. When in doubt just throw it out.Do cooking oils go bad?
    no they get better!
If it smells wierd or anything, don't use it.

It really shouldn't matter though, because if it is going to be heated than I'm sure whatever's in it will die.
They can go rancid, and give an off taste to anything you cook with it. Smell it, taste it. It might still be good, but more likely it has turned.
No. Oil gets rancid. Pitch it after that long.
Cooking oils can go rancid. A number of factors affect the speed an oil turn bad.

The best way to tell is to smell it, then maybe try a taste. When in doubt or any percipitate forming just throw it out.
Yes cooking oils go bad. I would take a pass and get a fresh bottle just to be on the safe side.

Also typical cooking oils are already processed by heating which makes them undigestible before you buy them.

Ie Safflower oil, corn oil, canola, pretty much any bottled cooking oil except for olive. Butter is ok, margarine is not, there are a few cold pressed oils in the health food store that are ok too..

The other thing is to cook at as low a temp as possible cause the oils go bad at high heat, so slow cooking is best ( think crock pot type stuff) and olive oil is especially not good to cook with, better for salads.
    it goes bad
Think about it this way, if its comming from an olive... would you keep an olive that long?!?! TOSS IT !!!!!
Olive oil doesn't go bad, per se, it is good 2 years past the manufacture date. The age may affect the taste, but it is still safe to use.

Get him in a shower and rinse it all off. Possibly let him out when it rains if you have a closed backyard or...if your out of options....drop a pitcher of warm (not hot or cold) water on him in the bathtub. I wouldn't recommend that.

If none of those work, which they probably won't and I doubt your gonna wanna let your cat out in the rain, take him to a pet groomer or a place like PetCo....for a fee they will fix him right up.

Which oils are safe 2 heat when cooking? in some cases, its dangerous, in other cases, oil loses its benefits?

any oil should be fine- it just depends on how much oil you have, and how hot it is. Olive oil is great, peanut oil is good for deep frying poultry, etc.

always be careful when it splatters.Which oils are safe 2 heat when cooking? in some cases, its dangerous, in other cases, oil loses its benefits?
olive oil , coconunt oil , peanut oil and the oil which is made from the skin of rice is the healthiestWhich oils are safe 2 heat when cooking? in some cases, its dangerous, in other cases, oil loses its benefits?
Healthy and safe is canola and sunflower.
if you are cooking at a very high temperature (deep frying, pan frying, stir-frying in a wok), use canola oil or peanut oil - both have very high smoke/flash points and will take the heat.

if you are quick sauteing, extra virgin olive oil is fine - just get the food into the pan before the oil smokes.

delicate and highly fragrant oils (walnut, flax seed, grape seed, sesame) should never be used to cook, only added to a dish at serving or just after removing the food from heat in order to preserve their healthful and taste qualities.
If you plan to cook a lot of things at once and the oil will stay hot for a long period, then use Peanut oil.It is pricey but worth it.Canola is good for home small fry jobs...
    Safflower, canola and peanut
For deep-frying I would use peanut oil or regular old vegetable oil (soybean oil) because they can take the high heat needed for that. When I saute something on the stove I use olive oil, which is good for you. Less of the ';bad'; fats in olive oil.

Can you use cooking oil as fuel for diesel cars legally.?

You have to make it a viable fuel first. You cant just get cooking oil and dump it in a diesel. It wont work. But yes it is a legal fuel source. Ok to all you people who say it will work as is. This is a fact if you do not install the converter on the engine it will destroy the truck. I know a guy that had it happen. so eat me.Can you use cooking oil as fuel for diesel cars legally.?
yes if you pay the dutyCan you use cooking oil as fuel for diesel cars legally.?
    YEP!!!!!
Yes as long as Tax is paid on it when you buy it
It is legal but you have to pay a tax on it - my boss's brother uses it and has a shed load of stuff to do to get it all put past the tax man.
yes, but you must pay the duty, which can be done after you've used it. Possibly a long time after ;o) you've used it.

    see below from HMCE:

What is the duty rate on cooking oil?

Cooking oil (whether used or unused) which has not been specifically produced or processed as a road fuel, will normally be classed as a fuel substitute. The duty rate will be the same as the sulphur-free diesel rate.

The important question is whether the finished fuel meets the legal definition. If a vegetable oil used as road fuel meets the fiscal definition HMRC will be happy to accept that it is entitled to the duty rate for biodiesel.

the rate for this is 28.52 p/litre

    http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPorta鈥?/a>
    not legally
Yes it is totally legal. And will not damage your car at all. FACT. Its just that most people can't be ar*ed.

And actually it definitely DOES work and you don't need to do anything to the car - its not like converting it to gas.
No you can not legally as it is not classed as a fuel and the tax has not been paid on it as such, so in theory the Customs and Excise could come and give you a fairly hefty fine for using it as a fuel.
It is legal to use it, but you are supposed to pay own up and pay the VAT.

If you mix it at 20% oil to 80% Diesel your motor should run ok, as you increase the oil to diesel ratio after that you will find that it will be harder to start on cold morinings as the oil doesn't burn as easily as diesel. The exhaust fumes are healthier but smell like a chip van (honestly)

Check prices, I found that Pura 1 ltr bottles off the shelf in Tesco were cheaper than the bigger ones per ltr. It can be a bit messy- you have been warned. Have fun.
Yes, but you're supposed to pay fuel duty tax to the government for every litre used.
    NO
    no you cannot
    Yes, you can!

Do you want to screw your car up?
u can run diesel car on new or used cooking oil without modifying it at all. However it is illegal if u dont pay tax on it. U will lose car and get fine IF court.

    Cooking oil question?

I wanted to know how much cooking oil a fast food restaurant can hold. How do they dispose of it? What companies dispose of the cooking oil?Cooking oil question?
Most fast food and restaurants get their fry oil sent in 35lb containers. Most commercial fryers hold about 40lb's each. On average fast food chains have 4-6 fryers in use. The oil, if properly filtered daily, and depending on what is fried lasts about a week (7 days). Most restaurants use an Oil caddy (long box looking thing on 2 wheels to drain their old oil and transport it to a receptacle bin located out back of the restaurant. AS far as who pick that oil up varied from state to state and city to city. In some city's, the public works department picks up the oil for recycling (those that run their buses and trucks on bio-deisel. Others there are waste companies that pick it up for recycling. Some mom and pop restaurants have local people that make their own bio-deisel pick up their used oil.Cooking oil question?
Many of the fast food and restaurants dispose there used oil by hiring a company that specifically picks up oil and fats. These companies, in some areas known as rendering products will haul the oils back to a plant where many of these oils are combined cooked and filtered and then further processed and sold as ingredients for many products, some of these are soaps and cosmetics.

Also more recently with higher oil prices, there are some who will pick up the oil, filter it and either heat or run a special automobile engine with it.
The answer depends on the size of the fryer and how many they use.

Most restaurants will have separate fryers for seafood, chicken, fries, breads. Most small fryers take about 52# or 7 +1/2 gallons oil.

They empty there oil into vats or tanks provided by companies that process used oil. They charge the restaurants for the rental on the tank and for picking it up. Then they process it out and charge for the new product..
where I work we use around 5000 litres per week.. A truck comes and pumps out the old oil which is located in huge drums and is recycled to make things such as make up, moisturisers, pet food and even the truck runs on recycled oil..

  • Flavoured/Infused cooking oil recipe?

i would like to make an ifused cooking oil.

what would be the best oil to use? and what shall i put in it?

and will i need to refridgerate it, disolve ingredients etc

    thanksFlavoured/Infused cooking oil recipe?
Use olive oil, store in an airtight non reactive container, glass bottles, jars etc with tight lids. Refrigerating isn't necessary if you are using olive oil. Infuse with anything you like, garlic, herbs, peppers, combos of the above, sweet things don't work as well though, use whole ingredients versus powders, they work better and then you can tell what kind of oil it is. Flavoured/Infused cooking oil recipe?
Making infused oilive oil is relatively straightforward. Glorious Angel has provided an excellent description. The secret is to release as much of the natural oil contained in the herb (s).

I would use a pestel and mortar to crush the herbs, garlic etc. prior to placing them in the oil. Be certain to pour the oil through a sieve or muslin cloth prior to storing in DARK bottles; sunlight and heat deteriorate olive oil!! Contrary to what others have said; NEVER heat the oil before adding the herbs or garlic....

I wish to add that to make lemon or orange scented olive oil, is not as straightforward as making herb infusions. When it comes to citrus fruit, the only method I know which yields a useable oil is to literally throw in lemons, limes or oranges at the time the olives are being pressed (mulched). This allows the fruit to be added to the olive paste prior to it being thoroughly mixed in order to release the oil contained in the skin.

I have experimented with various weight ratios of fruit to olives and have discovered that 15% of fruit to olives produces an excellent scented oil which does not overpower the flavour of fish or salad.

You can die from food tainted with botulism toxin. Botulism is an anaerobic bacteria and thrives in an environment that lacks oxygen. It dies in the presence of oxygen. Olive oil is very good at sealing out oxygen and keeping it away from the food that is immersed in the oil. Food stored in olive oil is an excellent breeding ground for botulism bacteria. It is very important to sterilize all the food that is put into the oil. The suggestion in the above answer of heating the oil to 200F should be taken seriously. (The principal is similar to home canning. Canning is a great way of keeping food fresh, because it removes the oxygen. But heat sterilization is essential when canning. Even commercial canning operations have produced tainted products.) Another important thing to understand is that once food becomes tainted with botulism toxin, it's too late to make it safe. Heating tainted food will kill the bacteria, but won't destroy the toxin, so it will still kill you.

I used to occasionally make flavored olive oil using raw garlic. Then I found out that this practice can be susceptable to botulism. I no longer make garlic-infused oil by storing garlic in oil for long periods.

If you want to flavor olive oil with herbs or garlic for using in recipes, I would recommend simply making it on the spot when you need it by sauteing the herbs or garlic in the oil for a few minutes over medium heat.

If you are a novice, I would highly recommend, as an alternative to infused oil, that you try making infused vinegars by adding various herbs to ordinary distilled white vinegar. This is safe because of the vinegar's acidity. And infused vinegars make just as nice presents.

    Here's an interesting site:

    http://www.exploratorium.edu/cooking/sea鈥?/a>

Olive oil is the best choice.

When I make it, I put into a drizzle bottle. A darker bottle is the best choice because light is the enemy of oil and herbs(once picked)

Wash and dry your choice of herb branches and lightly bruise them to release flavor. Place them in a clean decorative glass container, cover with warmed oil, and seal tightly. Leave in a cool, dark place to infuse about two weeks. Taste. If not strong enough, add more fresh herbs and let stand another week. You can either strain the oil or leave the herbs in. If you do not strain the herbs out, the flavor will become stronger as it stands, so keep that in mind.

Cooking oil is purified fat of plant or animal origin, which is liquid at room temperature.

Oil can be flavoured by immersing aromatic food stuffs such as fresh herbs, peppers and so forth in the oil for an extended period of time. However, care must be taken when using garlic and onions to prevent the growth of botulism in this medium.

My Dad has severe MSG allergies. When they come to visit, I want to take them to my favorite restaurants. I emailed/called all of them and asked if they used or had any spices or ingredients which contained MSG.

Napa Valley Grill went through their entire kitchen and told me no, they don't.

The Stinkin' Rose gave me a BS answer.

La Petite Jardin's chef has an MSG allergy also, so they don't use it.

Metro Glatt confirmed that they don't have any.

I say all that to say, you are a loyal customer. Your health comes first, and the restaurant should respect that.
Why not just ask ';What type of cooking oil do you use--hydrogenated or non-hydrogenated?'; If the waiter doesn't know, ask if he would check with the cook. Better yet, call ahead and ask. It could save you some grief and time if the type of oil really matters.
I really don't find than an impolite question at all. I would call beforehand and speak to the head chef or manager. If they are hesistant say you are on a special diet. My mother does this quite often because she is gluten intolerant, and most restaurants have no problem with giving her the information.

When cooking it says to use olive oil, what if i only have vegetable oil will that work?

pasta roni? When cooking it says to use olive oil, what if i only have vegetable oil will that work?
Olive oil has a great flavor, while vegetable oil has almost no flavor, so you might have a different taste when the dish is cooked. But, they can both be used interchangeably. When cooking it says to use olive oil, what if i only have vegetable oil will that work?
Yes, any kind of veggie oil will work, but it will taste a little different. Olive oil has a distinctive taste but most vegetable oils (safflower, canola, etc.) have almost no taste at all.
For pasta use whatever oil you happen to have. It will work just fine. You may have to adjust the volume a bit, and the taste will not be exactly the same. High quality peanut oil, grapeseed oil and corn oil can all be substituted.
It will taste different without the olive oil, but yes it will ';work.'; If there are a lot of other seasonings in the dish it might not be as noticeable. If you are simply sauteeing something in oil without much additional spices like you might do with scallops or shrimp the difference with the oil will be noticeable.
yeah I always use vegtable oil
    sure will,
It will work I use canola oil instead of veggie oil all the time.

so using veggie instead of olive oil will not hurt.
vegetable oil is fine to use.
veg oil will work but you lose out on the taste. Go buiy some olive oil. It's good to have in the house and much healthier than most other oils.
    Vegetable oil will work.

Have a bath, and use some aftersun lotion (Nivea is the best). You shouldn't be using baby oil anyway, always use sun tan lotion - at least factor 20. I am telling you this useful information, but something tells me you have nothing better to do, but ask deliberate moronic questions in a bid to be funny.
have a cool shower, try washing the oil off and put plenty of aftersun cream on. And next time check the bottle before putting it on!
well have a shower ,if it doesn't work you can always cut a let and barbacue it

I don't know if it'll help, but it sure can't hurt, so I say go for it! Actually, I'm going go for it myself. I have a scar on my wrist from surgery 4 years ago to remove a cyst. I used Vitamin E oil on it for a while, but not long enough to really help I guess. I've got a whole new bottle of EVOO, I'm going to start using it tomorrow. I think with the Vitamin E oil, I applied it three times a day.

    Good luck!

Cooking oil or lard for frying chips ?

which taste betterCooking oil or lard for frying chips ?
i like oil, but every now and then for a change lard

regards x kitti x Cooking oil or lard for frying chips ?
    Hi,

Veg oil will do it, lard is better.

However, I have duck fat in my chip pan.

Sounds disgusting, but I guarantee that if you par-boil the chips, and chuck them, dried off, into hot duck fat, it makes the perfect chip.

Crispy outside, fluffy inside, and tasty.

You can get lumps of it from butchers shops

    Happy chipping !
Chip shops used to use Beef Dripping. It was great, if it was fresh. Not good for the health though. Lard is minging for chips. It can't be just any old oil. I quite liked the results from Groundnut (peanut) oil.
try cutting your spuds into 1/8 Th's par boil them, then shallow fry them in a little peanut oil,if you are really adventurous then you could egg wash them and crumb them in finely crushed potato chips, and then bake them.
For the very best flavour use the lard. For the healthier option it must be the oil. For an even better flavour use beef dripping.
polyunsaturated vegitable oil; sunflower or olive oil is best
Cooking oil. Lard would give it a slight meaty taste. You want vegetable oil chips like what you get in the store.
Lard definately, but only once in a while - it's so bad for you!
Cooking oil. There is a chip shop near me that uses lard to fry chips and they taste bloody horrible!
    definitely cooking oil!
Lard, i use cooking oil but i had chips once fried in lard and they were brilliant

  • Please tell me the dangers of cooking with oil so I can tell my husband!?

Each day the average American eats about 2500 calories but, they’re eating more than just the four basic food groups. They’re also “eating oil” says David Pimentel, a professor of ecology and agricultural science at Cornell. Pimentel has calculated that it takes approximately 400-500 gallons of oil a year to feed the average American. That turns out to be a whopping 150,000,000,000 gallons of oil each year to feed the entire US population of about 300,000,000. Pimentel has taken into account agriculture production, processing, packaging, distribution and cooking. For example, a box of corn flakes contains 3,600 calories but he says it takes 16,000 calories of fuel energy to produce the box. Pimentel says that it currently takes about 10 calories of fossil fuel energy to produce one calorie of energy derived from food. Richard Manning, a journalist who has written extensively on the cross section of environmental and agricultural issues, says agriculture moved during the 20th century from a system where, for 7,000 years, each input of energy produced 10 calories of food to the exact opposite of that scenario which exists today. Please tell me the dangers of cooking with oil so I can tell my husband!?
cooking with oil is fine, but it gets very hot and can catch fire, and it also pops when heated, which can burn you.

cooking with oil is fine if you use it sparingly. the average American eats deep fried food a lot. that's a lot of use, and it's usually unhealthy oil like palm oil. Many oils are good for you but must be moderated.
Olive oil is actually good for you.
Cooking with oil to often will make your teeth fall out and oil is very flammable.

but do look it up on the net , there are many sites that will help you , even the legal way to do it ie duty tax etcCan I run my 2.5 Ltr Diesel Frontera on cooking oil?
Vegetable oil can be used as diesel fuel just as it is, without being converted to biodiesel.

The downside is that straight vegetable oil (SVO) is much more viscous (thicker) than conventional diesel fuel or biodiesel, and it doesn't burn the same in the engine -- many studies have found that it can damage engines.

There are other approaches, here are the main ones:

Just put it in and go.

Mix it with diesel fuel or kerosene then just put it in and go.

Blend it with an organic solvent additive or with what some companies call ';our secret ingredient that we'll tell you about if you pay us'; (several versions) or with up to 20% gasoline (petrol), just put it in and go.

The only way to use veg-oil is in a properly installed two-tank system where the oil is pre-heated and you start up and shut down on diesel fuel (or biodiesel).
Not without the engine being adapted

    It smells better, runs fine.

And is a very eco friendly thing to do.

    CanolaWhich cooking oil is better?
It depends on what you are cooking.

If you are sauteing I like olive oil, it is also great to cook eggs in. But you cant bake with it. For baking you want to use vegetable oil or a healthier choice of Canola oil. Choose corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, soy oil or canola oil if you wish to fry foods as these oils have higher smoke point. It is best not to fry with olive oil as its smoke point is only about 190C/375F. The ';ideal'; cooking oil should contain higher amount of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and with minimal or no saturated fats and trans fats.

They are all very close. There has been some controversy over the use of canola (once thought to be the healthiest). I suggest you google canola oil to see some of the write-ups. I have personally dismissed them but it is worth reading if you have concerns.

Vegetable oil can contain corn or canola oil (and others) , and is not an oil in its own right.

I use mostly olive oil for a sautee and either corn or canola for deep frying or when I don't want the flavor of olive (like when baking). I use peanut to stir fry.

I also occasionally use walnut or other nut oils for salad dressings.
I try to use the oil with a recognizable name such as corn, olive or canola oil. Who knows what is in vegetable oil except vegetables...
I think canola is healthier but I can't remember why. It's what I use though.
vegetable in my opinion canola's healthier

    Which Cooking Oil for Chicken?

Which cooking oil would you recommend for baked chicken cutlets?

I have tried a few, vegtable, olive, and peanut, but which one ';should'; i use?.. what would a chef use?.. when i read the labels they all seem the same regarding fats and calories.., but what about flavor?.. If you use Olive Oil and want that taste use Extra Virgin but watch the temperature.

I use whatever I have, as there is little taste difference.

There isn't one you should use.

Use one that will 'work' for you,

Save your EV Olive for dressings and Peanut for hot frying. They are the most expensive and aren't really required.

Most vhefs will recommend what ever they believein at the time, and as a rule do not need to worry about price.

TV chefs will use whatever oil is given to them in return for there product to be advertised.

Canola and Soyabean are the two I find will do well, theyboth have good flashpoints. (when they will burn)Which Cooking Oil for Chicken?
To select the proper oil for cooking anything, the first consideration is the cooking method to be used.

Olive oil tends to impart the most flavor to foods, but has a low smoking temperature which means that at high heat, it will break down and lend a somewhat burnt flavor to foods. Peanut oil, on the other hand, has one of the highest smoking temperature points and therefore the best to use in sauteing or frying. It is also much more expensive than olive oil. And when I refer to olive oil here, I am not including extra virgin or light olive oil, which is best used in salad dressings.

Health concerns aside, if I was baking chicken cutlets, I would use butter, unsalted, or vegetable oil.

If you are not totally confused at this point, great!
I vary the oil depending on the meal I am making and the temperature I will be cooking at. The different oils have different smoke points, so some may be suitable for low heat cooking but not high heat (like peanut).

    In general, I use:

Peanut and/or refined sesame oil for Asian Food

    Peanut oil for Mexican Food

Olive or grapeseed oil for Italian or American Food

Coconut oil for Thai Food (lower heat)
    olive oil.
all you need is a cooking spray oil...it will cut the calories. Isn'n that why you are baking them?

Grapeseed Oil has a high smoking point (485潞 F) which is ideal for sauteing and stir-frying. Studies show that grapeseed oil is high in vitamin E, and has the ability to raise HDL cholesterol. Its light, nutty and slightly fruity taste makes the oil a perfect base for salad dressings.Does anyone know anything about cooking with grape seed oil?

Keep it under ice cold water for awhile. Fill a basin with cold water and add ice to it and soak it in there to relieve the pain. Would you happen to have an aloe plant in the house? Break one stem open and smear the juice on the burned area and let it dry. If not, smear honey...yes, honey all over the burn and wrap in sterile gauze. Hello, I love cooking Indian dishes and have been using ExtraVirgin Olive oil for a while.?

recently I have been told that heat is the biggest enemy of EV Olive Oil. but I am aware its the best type of olive oil as well. Now I cant decide whether to continue using EV Olive oil for my cooking or not. Please advice. Please give alternate suggestions if possible. ThanksHello, I love cooking Indian dishes and have been using ExtraVirgin Olive oil for a while.?
Most Indian cooks (esp in India) prefer to use either veg or canola oil for cooking Indian food, it imparts a cleaner taste.

    Indians dont use olive oil.

Alot of Indians also use ghee (clarified butter), it has a high burning temp but is also high in fat. On the plus side, it's an anti-oxidant.

I suggest you try cooking with different types of oil and see which you prefer best (both as a cooking medium and taste wise). Try vegetable, canola or even blends. I know alot of people also use safflower or grapeseed oil. Peanut oil is good for frying.Hello, I love cooking Indian dishes and have been using ExtraVirgin Olive oil for a while.?
Heat is the biggest enemy of *all* edible oils, as it causes oxidation.

Don't sweat it. I use peanut oil for my french fryer and for baking, and use EVOO for salad oil. For frying, I either use EVOO or I use animal fats, such as bacon drippings.
hi- best to use normal olive oil for frying- extra virgin is best used in salad dressings and other low temperature cooking- whole point of extra virgin is the flavour- as soon as you blast it with heat you lose most of the aromatic flavours.
Heat is only an enemy of E.V.O. oil in as much as it destroys the health benefits of this particular oil. Indian food is better served by using Ghee or peanut oil. If you have to use olive oil and heat you might as well use just a plain 100% olive oil that is not extra virgin.
use ghee. Its a sort of butter actual indians use not Olive Oil
Heating the oil up by itself can ruin it if you let it heat too long but once you start adding food it's fine. Keep using it, there is nothing better.
Some interesting facts, highlighted in a new scientific review from Spain, suggest that extra virgin olive oil may hold the key to a public health mystery.

It all starts with the famous “Seven Countries Study”, which was the first to find heart-health benefits in the so-called Mediterranean Diet.

Subsequent studies confirmed that people living in the countries that surround the ancient sea enjoy better heart health, compared with Northern Europe or the US.

But as a reader reminded us recently, folks at the Weston A. Price foundation, whose domain is traditional diets and their health effects, have taken pains to highlight some inconvenient truths about the Seven Countries Study and the ';official'; Mediterranean Diet.

It turns out that the Greek and Italian peoples in the Seven Countries Study ate diets that bear little resemblance to the the idealized ';Mediterranean Diet';, to which most nutrition gurus say we should aspire: one full of veggies, fruits, beans, and fish, with modest amounts of whole grains and olive oil and only small amounts of meat, poultry, and cheese.

Indeed, such a diet is ideal for optimal health. But it isn’t what most Mediterranean people ate then or eat today.

Typical Italians, Greeks and Spaniards of the 1960’s and 70’s, living when and where the famed Seven Countries Study occurred, ate lots of meat, cheese, refined white bread, white pasta, not much fish at all, and modest amounts of greens. And that picture hasn’t changed much in the intervening decades.

The author of a new olive oil health review puts her finger on an explanation that’s obvious in hindsight, because she and other researchers have found a key part of the missing puzzle of the Mediterranean Diet: the potent antioxidants in extra virgin grade oil, or EVOO for short.

As Barcelona’s Dr. Maria-Isabel Covas writes in her new paper, “Olive oil is the main fat in the Mediterranean diet. The wide range of anti-atherogenic [plaque-preventing/stabilizing] effects associated with olive oil consumption could contribute to explain the low rate of cardiovascular mortality found in Southern European Mediterranean countries, in comparison with other western countries, despite a high prevalence of CHD [coronary heart disease] factors.” (Covas MI 2007)

By ';... high prevalence of CHD [coronary heart disease] factors'; she means the high smoking rates and diets full of pork, sausage, cheese, and white bread actually found among people in Mediterranean regions.

The monounsaturated “Scandinavian Diet”: More clues to the mystery

The fatty acid that predominates in olive oil – a monounsaturated one called oleic acid -- is also one of the main fatty acids in the animal foods consumed widely in Western diets, such as poultry and pork.

    Surprised? It gets better.

In a Swedish study published six years ago, comparing Swedish and Spanish women, the Spanish ladies clearly ate more fruit and vegetables than the Swedish women did ... no big surprise there.

The shocker was that blood levels of oleic acid were higher in the Swedes than in women from Spain’s Seville, and those levels correlated closely with the Swedes’ meat intake (Chajes V et al 2001).

Clearly, monounsaturated oleic acid alone is not what gives olive oil its heart-healthy properties, or we’d all be talking about the wonders of the “Scandinavian Diet”.

So why, despite eating diets that are not very heart-healthy – aside, that is, from using olive oil in place of butter and corn or canola oil – do Mediterranean peoples enjoy markedly lower rates of heart disease?

The answer lies in olive oil … but not, as we’ve seen, for the monounsaturated reasons once thought … at least not the whole answer.

Mono fats form hearty foundation … but aren’t enough

All grades of olive oil -- which contain equal proportions of monounsaturated oleic acid -- do six good things:

    Raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels

    Lower triglyceride levels

Lower the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol

    Reduce oxidation of LDL cholesterol*

    Lower blood pressure

Reduce damage to DNA from free radicals

*Oxidation of LDL cholesterol by free radicals plays a key role in promoting cardiovascular disease. Using olive oil as your primary dietary fat fills LDL particles with oxidation-resistant monounsaturated oleic acid, instead of the polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acids that predominate in other vegetable oils, like corn and safflower.

Until recently, these half-dozen beneficial effects had been attributed solely to monounsaturated fatty acids, which predominate only in olive oil and macadamia nut oil.

When in 2004 the US FDA began allowing olive oil labels to declare that eating about two tablespoons (23 g) of olive oil daily could reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, they specified that labels had to say that this was “… due to the monounsaturated fat (MUFA) in olive oil.”

But that notion’s been clearly proven wrong.

In fact, extra virgin grade oil (EVOO) – the only kind with its antioxidants intact – appears substantially better for heart health, compared with “virgin” grade oil and especially with antioxidant-free “pure” grade, which can now simply be labeled “olive oil”.

We now know this, thanks to largely to the landmark “EurOlive” study, co-authored by Dr. Covas, on which we reported last fall (see “Extra Virgin Olive Oil Confirmed as Best Cardiac Prevention Choice”).

That trial examined the effects of the three grades of olive oil – which have very different amounts of antioxidant phenols, ranging from none to lots (in EVOO) -- on blood levels of triglycerides and cholesterol, and damage to blood lipids and arterial tissues from free oxygen radicals: so-called “oxidative stress”. (Covas MI, Nyyssonen K, et al 2006)

In the end, the high-phenol (Extra Virgin) olive oil outperformed the other two oils (Virgin and Pure grade) when it came to enhancing three factors helpful to cardiovascular health:

Lowest ratio of total cholesterol “good” HDL cholesterol

    Biggest rise in HDL cholesterol

Biggest drop in levels of oxidized LDL cholesterol

And other studies prove that the phenol antioxidants in EVOO – which are scarcer in Virgin grades and utterly absent from Pure grade oils -- do wonders for the health and performance of the endothelial tissue that lines our arteries: a key factor in cardiac health.

All three oils reduced triglyceride levels to the same extent, which suggests that the monounsaturated oleic acid in all olive oils is largely responsible for this particular cardiovascular benefit.

You don’t take huge amounts of EVOO to help your heart. As Dr. Covas says in her new evidence review, “The fact that phenolic compounds from olive oil are bioavailable … even from doses … lower than those reported as usual in the Mediterranean diet … reinforces their possible protective role ...”

It looks like the actual diets of Italy, Greece, and Spain aren’t much like what's described as ';The Mediterranean Diet” … no matter how healthful this idealized version of Mediterranean reality has proven to be in many studies testing it.

And it’s increasingly clear that EVOO is something of a magic bullet that counteracts what in reality are some otherwise nutritionally mediocre Mediterranean-region diets that happen, fortunately, to feature the world’s heart-healthiest food oil very heavily
for real high heat or deep fat frying use peanut oil ,use evoo for saute and all other things

When cooking a steak on a cast iron pan does anybody use butter instead of oil?

it depends on how well seasoned the pan is. if i do have to, i will use butter and oil. you get the butter flaver, but the oil keeps the butter from burning. you can do that in any pan. When cooking a steak on a cast iron pan does anybody use butter instead of oil?
You use what you like - go with the flavor profile that fits your mood and ENJOY!! Remember - it's only food. Have funWhen cooking a steak on a cast iron pan does anybody use butter instead of oil?
You should always ';season'; your cast iron with oil or lard, not butter. If your talking about each time you make a steak then no you do not need to use any oil or butters.
    nope, always oil
I use butter, it gives a better taste, and you don't want to burn your steak, so, cooking on medium will keep the butter from burning.

Of course, make sure your skillet is seasoned, if it isn't, then here's what you do:

Coat your skillet in shortening, a thin layer, preheat your oven to about 300. Put your skillet in on a cookie sheet to keep the shortening from dripping and making a mess. Cut off the oven and let the skillet stay in overnight. When you get it out, wipe it down real good, but, don't use soap, you're making sure the shortening gets down in the metal to keep it from rusting and foods from sticking to it. You can use hot water and a dishrag if you need to, but, you shouldn't, really.
    Neither.
I often use butter, but bacon grease makes it even better.
    don;t use butter, use oil

reason: butter has milk solids that will burn at low tempertures(250 around)...The solids will burn so badly that it will affect you food( taste of burnt carbon). Oils have a higher smoking point( tempature in which it starts to burn) Olive oils has the lowest of the oils and vegetable has one of the highest, but there is a flavor exchange.

I recomend clarilfing the butter before used. it is a process that eliminates the solids and increase the smoke point of butter. ( tip the smoke point of clarified butter will not have a burnt taste but a nutty taste).
i always use butter and garlic powder or salt and after i flip it i put more butter on top of it

Vegtable or sunflower oil which is healthier/better for cooking?

I always use olive oil. It is the best and now days it is so cheap you can get even extra virgin for not much money, so why not use it for all your cooking? If it is too heavy tasting for you, you can also use Canola oil. Both are great sources of Omega 3 and do not have trans fats. If you use veg oils make sure they have no trans fat, hydrogenated fats or partially hydrogenated fats. This makes them NOT shelf stable, so keep in the fridge. (do not keep olive oil in the fridge though, it will thicken up). If you can, buy your oils in small-ish quantities so that you are always using fresh oil. oils are perishable foods. It is when industry made them non-perishable that trans fats were created. Look up trans fats and oils on the web, there is lots of info out there. PeaceVegtable or sunflower oil which is healthier/better for cooking?
Both are very good oils as long as they are good quality. It comes down to cooking temperatures which is where olive oil falls down. It isn't as tolerant of the high cooking temperatures and can produce nasty by-products at frying temperaturesVegtable or sunflower oil which is healthier/better for cooking?
in terms of saturated/unsaturate/polyunsaturated / trans fats etc, sunflower oil is much better than vegetable, but olive oil-especially extra Virgin is even better so use that where you can.
try virgin olive oil! its healthiest for you
There are many different types and often have different uses. It depends on what you are using them for.Olive oil is healthier than vegetable oil in general. Sesame seed oil is very good for stir frying though
Both are usually the same thing.A good tip is to look in the ingredients. But vegetable oil(especially soy)is better 4 cooking.
It depends on what you are using the oil for (ex. sauteeing vs. deep frying). Here is an article w/ a grid of different oils %26amp; their uses: http://www.ehow.com/how_109845_choose-co鈥?/a>

3 heart atacks and quad bypass later . they tell me rapeseed oil is the best and the cheapest. i , so far cannot dispute this.
olive oil is a lot healthier, i have heard rapeseed oil is good to but i have never tried it.
I prefer Vegetable oil, but I think they are both about the same nutritionally.

    =]
Neither Olive oil is the best ^_^
depends, neither are really about health, they are more about cooking and having different uses, one may be better than the other at one thing and the other at another thing, I dont use oil but I would have thought vegetable oils are better for stews and stuff where you fry up onions for the sauce first, and sunflower oils to be good with chips.

Know they are likely to taste different, only cos my mum only uses olive oil as she cannot stand the taste of any of the other oils.

try a website devolted to cooking and ask the chef there, or try bbc.co.uk which I think has some type of cooking question and answer page.
If it was for a chip pan or something that used alot of oil id go for sunflower oil. but otherwise olive oil all the way. it can take a bit of time to get used to but its much more healthier and if you tried to go back to veg or sunflower afterwards they would taste like frying with wax crayons.

Cooking with (possibly) expired olive oil?

So, I got this craving for some over easy eggs about an hour ago.

The only cooking oil I could find was olive oil.

Can you use olive oil to fry an egg?

Also, the expiration date has apparently been torn off the bottle.

So, maybe it's old? Anyone know of a way to tell?

%26amp; if it is expired, is it still safe to use?

The bottle's still sealed; never been opened.

10 points to best answer :)

Thanks.Cooking with (possibly) expired olive oil?
Sometimes it's hard to distinguish rancid olive oil from a peppery olive oil IE ';Tuscan'; oil.

    Anyway, that's a long story.

    Taste and smell the oil.

If it's peppery( that's desirable and don't confuse it with being spoiled).

Rancid will have a very off odor.

As long as the oil wasn't left in direct sunlight( like in a window) it should be fine.

( BTW, this will not harm you or make you sick even if it's a little off).

Usually olive oil is good for 3 years and sometimes more but 2 years if the preferred time to use it by.

Use it!Cooking with (possibly) expired olive oil?
    1. How long have you had the bottle?

Open the bottle and smell it- if it smells rancid then use it for oiling hinges etc! because cooking with it will leave a bad taste- OIL never really gets bad! think about the below

You buy a bottle of olive oil in july of 2008 with a date of expiry say-1st Dec 2008- you start using it in August- you are one person ! You surely will not be able to use all the oil by Dec 2008 does it mean you have to throw it out?

Oil can never really spoil- Yes it can get rancid ( a stale smell) So go ahead and use it- I personally do not like to use olive oil to fry an egg, but yes you can as long as you don't get it all smoking - I know many people who like to fry an egg with frilly sides- Yuk! but each to their taste-
    Olive oil expiration date:

2 years from manufacture date (After this time, color or flavor may be affected, but product is still generally safe to consume.) From this website:

    http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/con鈥?/a>
Yah I fry my eggs in olive oil all the time because I'm alergic to milk so i use that. I wouldn't worry about the olive oil it should be fine just don't use a whole lot of it. good luck!
I ALWAYS use olive oil to fry eggs. It is healthier for your heart. Use only a little or you will have an oily egg. Just enough to coat the pan. If it is unopened then it should be fine. But open and smell it just in case.Good eats!
I would taste the olive oil and see if it is rancid. If not you should be good to go. I dont see why you cant use olive oil to cook an egg.
I dont think that stuff can expire...if it smells fine, it probably is

Yes you can use plive oil to fry an egg. Butter tastes better tho.
Rancid oil has a really bad smell. Never fried an egg in olive oil but I'l bet you could. I would try it if I were you.
you dont have any butter or margarine in the house??i never use oil!!yuck!!or use spray!!

Intake of Cooking Oil VS Natural oil?

INTAKE of Cooking oil like: Canola, Olive can they improve ur health after undergoing manufacturing processes?

I know naturally their oil can give good health because they are mono, polysaturated. But howabout cooking oil?

And Will u verify ur answerIntake of Cooking Oil VS Natural oil?
Your question is a bit confusing. All cooking oils are natural but all natural oils arent used for cooking. Oils obtained from fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other edible seeds are used in cooking.

Natural oils are petroleum which arent used in cooking at all.

All cooking oils are nowadays processed to give low fat contents. The question that is debatable is are all the oils imparting good health? Any oil is an oil that contains some amount of fats. Else they wont be called oils. Whatever manufacturing processes they undergo, you cannot eliminate all the toxins and fats. You have only to rely on the manufacturer's comments on the label.Intake of Cooking Oil VS Natural oil?
Cooking oil goes through some kind of processes. But i know there are good ones. Just find out from any food scientist

I am not hard-hearted, and often give cash donations to groups that hold bake-sales, but I just don't eat their home-made goodies...not everyone is as careful about washing their hands, not having the cat walk on the table, etc. as I would be!Is NYC run by the Gestapo? NYC is shooting to be the healthiest city in the USA. Bloomberg was also responsible for no smoking in public places. I don't smoke but it is yet another infringement on our rights.
Every time some fat bureaucrat decides to quit doing something %26amp; ';change'; his life he figures everyone else needs to quit too. Bastards.
They didn't ban cooking oil...just cooking oil with loads of trans fat in it.

Can u run diesel car on half diesel and half cooking oil without converting engine.?

no. the engine will work fine b/c the conversion is not for the motor but the delivery system. a standard ysstem will clog using oils, so you must have the new tank and such. you could do bio diesel, or get the conversion. Can u run diesel car on half diesel and half cooking oil without converting engine.?
wow, some people dont half waffle on...

simple answer YES. you can run your old ford on a diesel/oil mix BUT...

its got to be clean, thats micron filter clean, or itll clog the filters. DONT us oil from dirty dans burger vans... i bought a diesel veg volvo, it cost 4oo quid to fix it, but ran like a song for another 4yrs, till i sold it. (and bought a toyota diesel)

the oil waxes, but mixing it with pump diesel reduces that, and its not actually cold yet, wait till jan/feb... then it may give you problems...

their appears to be more power in used cooking oil, BUT, its a nightmare to clean, neutralise, and refine, (cooked in oil is acidic, your diesel metering pump ISNT protected... and it doesnt like corrosion of any sort) fresh oil is virtually PH neutral.

AND .. this is the biggie.. youve GOT to tell DVLA, or when plod/customs stop you, youre nicked.. for not declaring youre running veg oil, and evading the taxation. but its a free registration and yu can fill the forms online. Can u run diesel car on half diesel and half cooking oil without converting engine.?
no!!!!! it will eat up the gas lines, and decreas gas mileage, i would just stick with regular deisel (which i know from experience!!!)
firstly, the cooking oil needs to be used, not fresh. The answer is yes...followed by a no. Seeing that you didn't mention motors, I will apply my answer to that of a Jetta TDI. The motor will run, but the first issue to will run into is the clogging of your fuel system. There is a high level of filtration on Diesel motors that is needed, it is common automotive knowledge that things such as injectors tend to clog up prematurely. So that is pretty much the bulk of your issue, flow or rather the lack of.

    good question.

    Cheers.
no but you can turn cooking oil into bio deisel and then run your deisel on it.

try searching for the recipe on google .

  • I was cooking and boiling oil splashed on my hand.?

Not a lot but there are like 4 spots about the size of a pencil eraser. I ran cold water on it. Is there anything else I should do (like put neosporin on it)?I was cooking and boiling oil splashed on my hand.?
Oil isn't soluble in water, so there might still be oil on your hand. Use some rubbing alcohol to swab the area with to make sure the oil is gone, residual heat can make the burns worse.

Then pat your hand dry and lightly bandage it with nonstick gauze. Don't put neosporin on it yet-- anything oily or greasy will trap the heat and can make the burn worse. Tomorrow you can start using neosporin to prevent infection, but don't put anything like that on a burn for at least 12 hours.I was cooking and boiling oil splashed on my hand.?
Yes. Disinfect the area with something like peroxide or alcohol first, then you can apply a LIGHTLY wrapped bandage of some sort after you apply the neosporin to prevent infections. Keep the bandage changed and the burns clean. Oh, tee hee, and for the next time, DON'T put any water on an oil burn. It can sometimes make it worse. Don't listen to all those people who will tell you to do something retarded like put butter on it either. That doesn't help one bit.
you did good by running cold water on it. neosporin would be great to allow your skin to heal faster.
cold water, or water at any temp is a no no for oil burns

I got an answer to my other question saying that you can run your car with cooking oil. Actually, half cooking oil, have diesel, is this true?Ok, Now running your car with cooking oil?
The conversion has been done a number of times to allow vehicles to do this. The individual usually gets some notice on TV or the newspaper.

One problem is finding someone who can do it without damaging your engine. Then there is the problem of a reliable supply. One person can go to various restaurants and get waste cooking oil for free. Several hundred people in a town would create a demand for it greater than the supply. Restaurants would start charging.

If you buy cooking oil at the store, it is about $3.25 per quart.Ok, Now running your car with cooking oil?
you can really run it on 100 percent cooking oil. The trick is to start the engine on diesal and allow it to get at the correct operating temp. Once you have reached this temp switch over to the cooking oil. You pretty much setup a electric vavle that will stop diesal gas from entering into the engine and at the same time allowing the cooking oil to enter. There are a couple of companys that make these kit, and they are really easy to install and setup
Sure it will probably run for a few hours then you will REALLY REALLY REALLY screw your car to hell. If it's a diesel car then yes it will be better but, a gas car is out of the question.

Are olive oil and corn oil good for your skin? If so, why? what are the benefits? if not, how does it harm? thanks! just curious! Are either of these cooking oils good for your skin?
Yes, olive oil is good for your skin but not the type you typically buy at the grocery store for cooking. You want to use an organic extra-virgin expelled-pressed olive oil. It is the purest form of the oil and is best for use on skin after cleansing. Otherwise, yes, you might get a little too oily in the areas that don't need it. In the winter months, I take a tablespoon a day of it internally as well. Doesn't taste bad to me so I have no problems there. It helps internally as well as externally taking it like that.

Corn oil...hmmm....you would need to take a hot shower/bath after applying it so what's the point there? That one is best kept in the kitchen! LOL!

    Oil is oil is oil.

Different oils serve different purposes and have different positive traits and boundaries.

Olive oil does not overheat well. So if you wanted to fry or heat on really high heat for a long time, olive oil would not be beneficial (plus, it is the most expensive).

Veggie oil and canola oil are great for frying and baking.

If something calls for one type of oil - as your brownies do - and you only have another type of oil - use whatever is on hand. For ex. if you only had olive oil, your brownies would not taste too different - most people wouldnt notice it - I never did. With brownies, use whatever you have on hand and whatever is cheapest, as the oil will not be the main taste in the brownies.

Hope this helps! Is canola oil the same as cooking oil?
Yes, Canola is what you need for brownies, because it doesn't have a heavy flavor. And vegetable oil is not healthier than canola unlike the other answer said.
you can use either. Canola oil is a healthier choice for you but veggie oil will cook better in a brownie mix. Use canola for some salad dressings, frying etc.
I grew up where they grow canola. It is used for cooking, though vegatable oil is supposed to be healthier.
yes I use whatever i have on hand...canola, corn, veggie or sunflower..
    YES

How to remove oil stain that has hardened on a cooking pan?

Heat the pan first, then after heating, quickly scrub the stain using lemon juice. Then wash it the usual way.How to remove oil stain that has hardened on a cooking pan?
If you have a self cleaning oven I usually stick the pan in there for the duration of the clean. Be careful though because things like non stick teflon pans, cake tins and cheaper roasting pans can lose their finish doing it this way - otherwise good old SOS pads and a bit of elbow grease should work! How to remove oil stain that has hardened on a cooking pan?
oven cleaner if pot is not aluminum.
cut a potato in half and put detergent on it and scrub scrub scrub

    it will come off
Soak the pan for a while, then make a paste of baking soda and water. Use the paste to scrub off the stain. It will probably take a lot of scrubbing, but it should come off.

Cooking oil mostly is bad for your arteries if over used. It can make all of anyone bigger as it is a fat. :)
Cooking oil is a fat and high in calories. If you are eating more calories (total) than you are using in a day you will add fat to your body. Where the fat is added is up to your genetics.

Cooking oil is generally vegetable oil, and thus, quite renewable. It can also be made from various animal byproducts which, while also renewable, are not as good for the environment.
